Well the last couple of years, he's batted cleanup in 131 games and he's driven in 105 runs. Over 150 games, that would mean 120 RBI. I don't get what the problem is.

I would agree with you if we were talking about earlier in his career. But the last couple of years, he's markedly changed his approach at the plate when runners get on base. When no one's on, he's one of the most patient hitters in baseball. But when a hitter gets on base, or gets into scoring position he completely changes gears and gets quite aggressive.

I appreciate it, but I hope I make more of a name for myself with the stats I provide than I do by simply poking fun at the easiest target on the forum.

Youkilis is the PROTOTYPICAL 4 hitter. I don't think people realize just how great he is. He was 6th in the majors in OPS last year, and he's a career .344/.443/.559 hitter with RISP. The last two years, with runners in scoring position Youk has hit .362/.486/.589 and .374/.445/.646. In all seriousness, he might quietly be the best clutch hitter in baseball.

We really didn't lose anything. When we signed Scutaro, we lost the #29 pick in the first round and when the Braves signed Wagner we got an even better pick at #20. Numbers 1-15 are all protected, so getting a #20 pick because of free agency is the 5th best pick we could have gotten. In addition, we picked up two first round draft picks (Wagner and Bay) and a second round pick (Bay). I think we'll somehow survive with only 4 extra draft picks next year lol

You're right, Nick Green is as good a shortstop as Marco Scutaro, the Red Sox don't have a 4th starter, Chamberlain's 1.56 WHIP, 9.81 H/9, 4.25 BB/9 in the first half last year were great, AJ Burnett and a 38 Andy Pettitte are a lock for 30+ starts and 200+ innings, and Vazquez is a sure thing to have an ERA under 4.50 in the AL even though he's only done it once in four years. /end Jacko impersonation He really is quite comical. Only problem is that it's for all the wrong reasons.

Not to mention we also had 26 games last year of Lowrie who only hit .147/.211/.265 (.475 OPS) and we had 32 games of Julio Lugo who had a -44.7 UZR/10. Those two plays more games combined than Gonzalez.

Just like the rest of Jackson's arguments (ex. Kotchman is starting at first, Cameron is starting in left, 4 of the Yankees starters are a "sure thing" to make 30+ starts and 200 innings, etc.) When you can't win an argument with logic, just speculate!

I don't think many other people were looking at it from a Bay vs. Cameron/Lackey perspective, but you do have a point in that we signed Cameron AND Lackey with the money we offered Bay and he rejected. I think a fairly decent case could be made that the difference in offense between the two could be offset by having Victor Martinez with us for a full season, instead of 4 months of Varitek offensively. Not to mention having Scutaro play short instead of Nick Green and his disgusting .236/.303/.366 line. And for the Yankees a case could probably be made that he dropoffs they'll be seeing in offense in left and at the DH spot could be offset by having A-Rod healthy the first month of the season.

We're losing a pretty big chunk of offense, but we're also gaining a pretty big chunk of run prevention due to defense. Overall, I don't think it's gonna kill us to make a moderate downgrade in left considering the huge upgrades we made in the rotation and at shortstop. We did win 95 games last year, it's not like we needed to improve much to be a 100 win caliber team.

Right, but we're talking the total impact of the players which includes defense.

If Cameron plays center, he's certainly move valuable than Bay is overall. But we're still seeing an offensive downgrade in left going from Bay to Ellsbury. Granted we're gaining plenty of offense and defense in center. It's hard to say what kind of value Ellsbury will have in left field. He was 11.8 runs above average offensively last year, but we don't really have a reliable sample size of how he'd do defensively in left field.

Backtracking 101. Which one do you want me to debate? Your original assertion that 4 Yankees starters are a sure thing for 30+ starts and 200 innings or that they all pitched around 190 innings the last 2 years? Those are two very different things.

Cameron will likely play center unless Ellsbury improves. You can't honestly think the Yankees offense is improving overall going from Damon, Matsui and Melky (all putting up career type numbers) to Granderson, Johnson and Brett Gardner
