    Imagine, a $20 million dollar guy batting 7th! You'd think they would deal him for practically anybody in a heartbeat, but that would make Cherington & Co, who signed him, look bad. I still have a hard time believing Henry won't unload his contract at the first opportunity--regardless of what the front office thinks. I mentioned in another thread that Larry Bowa and Mitch Williams both said tonite on MLB TV that the best team for Hanley R. is the Red Sox, because they have veterans like Papi and Ross who can turn him around. They said the lack of veterans in Miami has hurt his development. I hope Lucchino/Henry were listening.

    On MLB TV tonite, Rosenthal didn't include the Red Sox among those teams interested in Hanley R., but Larry Bowa and Mitch Williams both said the best team for Hanley was the Red Sox--they have veterans like Papi and Ross who can turn him around. They said the lack of those veterans in Miami to guide him has hurt Hanley's development. Meanwhile, back at the coral, I see Crawford is batting 7th? tonite against LHP. Imagine a guy making $20million batting 7th! You'd think they'd be willing to get rid of him for a sack of potatoes. But that would make Cherington & Co, who signed the guy, look bad. There's the rub.

    Both these guys have gone to pot--for different reasons. I still think neither of them are in 100% shape. Let's face it. the Sox have a leadership--I mean management--problem.

    The latest word on Edes twitter is the Sox are not in on Hanley.Then who are they in on? There is a sense on the boards that Cherington is not the guy for the Sox GM job right now. That they needed an outsider to change direction. He is basically a status quo guy, who was in on all the Epstein mistakes. He's not going to admit anything has gone wrong. If so, you can blame Lucchino/Henry. They probably saved some money keeping the front office changes to a minimum.

    Doubt they'll trade JJ. The best way to get Hanley is in a package with Bell--for CC. The Marlins already figured that one out. Bell and Hanley both have the same problem--too much weight. Lucchino would have to pull off this type of deal. It's too big for Cherington to swallow.

    This is the type of "bold" move that unbold Ben should make, when it looks like the Titanic might be sinking. Hanley is listed as 6 ft 3, 229 lbs. He's put on some weight the last few years, and has eaten his way out of SS. More like a fullback now vs a halfback when he got traded. I have a feeling if he loses 10-15 lbs and gets conditioned properly, he might be a SS again--and improve his stroke, as well. With Hanley, it's salary for salary. No team will take a chance on him for prospects. That's why dumping Crawford for him in a package looks very attractive. It would get the Sox out from under one of those god-awful contracts given by Theo when he was drunk.

    Lucchino made a terrible mistake letting the front office pick some of V's coaches. And V made a mistake taking the job under those circumstances. The real problem with the Sox is the front office--not the manager. Tito was just a front office guy. Getting rid of him and Epstein did not solve the problem. The holdovers are still there, trying to run the show. And Lucchino has given them too long a leash. I believe this is what is really wrong with the Red Sox. The players know it, and it has affected their play. They know V doesn't have a lot of authority.

    As I mentioned in another thread, the Rangers just lost Colby Lewis for the season and are a good bet to swoop in and get Josh Johnson while Cherington is counting his play toys. That Crawford for Hanley plus Bell deal is looking better by the day--if only for a change in bodies. Beckett has to go, too. If the FO really did nix that Crawford deal, it just shows you where they are about the need for change.

    We'll leave Ben & Co to ponder that question while the Rangers swoop in and get Josh Johnson. They just lost Lewis for the season. That's one of the Sox problems. Their competitors (Rangers, Tigers, Jays)have more aggressive organizations when it comes to dealing. I won't even mention the Yankees--who clearly are at another level in dealing.

    I'd like to see Crawford and Beckett go to Miami for Johnson and Hanley. And whatever filler to even salaries. Cherington needs to become aggressive--if that's possible. Time for Lucchino to step in.

    Yeah, the Yankees got Ichiro--so the Sox better get somebody. One of those pundits on MLB TV said tonite the Yankees "likely" will be World champions again. He didn't mention that the Yankees are an aging team who have been flaming out in the playoffs lately. And they just got older. And don't have Rivera to fall back on this year. It's tough to get that NY-based network media to say anything bad about the Yankees. Having said that, the Red Sox are in much worse shape. Henry is in a real pickle.

    The organization has gone stale. The roof has to cave in before anything happens. They aren't seeing what people on the outside see.

    What bugs me is the management has done nothing about Lester and Beckett. Absolutely nothing. They have allowed those two guys to kill the team double-handedly. They know their poor records, but they have made no effort to deal with the problem. In fact, there is no indication they think a problem exists. I've been saying all along this is a complacent organization. Once in a while Henry wakes up and gets rid of somebody. But I don't see a real committment to winning with the higher-ups. And that includes those boys in the front office. The one thing they are committed to is sellouts. I guess they figure they don't have to win to sell the park out. Hell, when I was a kid, they couldn't get a million in the seats for the year even with Ted Williams. You got to win to fill the seats.Their problem was pitching then too. Surprise.

He's opening up too soon. He telegraphs his curveball, and his other pitches have flattened out. None of the observers are connected to the Red Sox, unfortunately.

They say he's opening his body up too soon; his pitches are flattening out and he is telegraphing his curveball. His mechanics have gone astray, and there is no decent pitching coach on the Red Sox to tell him about it. It's the management, stupid.
