There is, by the way, no basis for comparing Youks to Fisk. Fisk was driven out of Boston along with Fred Lynn by the Red Sox GM, Haywood Sullivan, at the beginning of free agency in the late 70s. He simply allowed their contract offers to be sent out too late. Sullivan hated free agency. In contrast, Steinbrenner was signing every free agent in sight at the time--pushing up the prices. Gene Autrey of the Angels was also throwing money around. I'm surprised George didn't go after Lynn or Fisk. Autrey got Lynn, and Fisk went to the White Sox. That was a black day for the Red Sox--almost akin to the selling of Babe Ruth.
