  1. I don't think Cherington has the balls to trade Beckett.
  2. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2012/07/31/careful_shopping_needed_in_this_market/ Carfardo this morning says Ben & Co are taking a cautious approach. ?? But LL said they were going to be "bold." We did learn that Texas wanted Cook before the Yankee series, but the Sox turned them down. So they start him in Yankee Stadium, he shits the bed, and the Rangers now are not interested. Plus they got Soto instead of Shoppach. Not starting Morales instead of Cook in NY was very damaging to Boston--in more ways than one. Was V's hands tied on this one? The impression I get of Cherington--no initiative. Passive guy. Waits too long. Don't get your hopes up. He isn't a change type of guy. He won't last as GM. LA TV power is showing itself again this year with the hyperactive Dodgers. Last year it was the Angels. Next year it might be the Mets. TV wishes every team was in NY and LA. These are the big spending teams.
  3. Tweet right now about a meeting going on in Vs office with medical staff, Cherington and LL. Has to be about CC--maybe that 4 game business or surgery on his elbow. CC was not invited.
  4. Tweet:Meeting right now in Vs office with medical staff, Cherington and LL. Has to be about CC's elbow.
  5. I think a basic problem with the FO is they filled holes on the roster with retreads instead of going to the farm system, and giving the prospects a chance. The result is a lot of mediocrity in the lineup with no upside.
  6. Nice pic  Bad idea:thumbdown
  7. wouldn't mind seeing salty, aviles traded. would open up catching for Lav, SS for Iggy. Shoppy is the guy who may get dealt. tweets say Sweeney not traded. Garza may get moved.
  8. Yankees lost. Looks like the Orioles are legit. Bad news for the Sox.
  9. Gio is a lot better right now than most people expected. Maybe because he's in the NL. Kuroda was overpriced--but loose change for NY. The Red Sox would be better off right now if they hadn't traded for AdGon or signed CC. And still had Youkilis to play 1B. Plus Rizzo, who looks like a star. No guarantee they would have had to give up Middlebrooks for Gio. He wasn't the player he is now. They had other pieces they dealt for Bailey. The FO just traded for the wrong guy. They were stuck on starting Bard. Wrong again.
  10. Sweeney replaced in RF. Traded?
  11. Now let Buccholz finish the game. 108 pitches thru 8. But we don't do things like that around here.
  12. This 4th game "rest" day for Crawford in the middle of the Yankee series--after an off day two days before--has damaged the Red Sox organization--even more than the chicken-beer episode. Most teams wouldn't take that seriously--since many do the same. They know that's partly media BS. But the benching of a player without the manager's approval with a very thin argument that didn't make sense is a signal to other teams there are internal problems on the Red Sox. That hurts their ability to trade or sign players. Who wants to play for a dysfunctional organization with no management leadership? Henry should recognize this, and either clean house or sell the team.
  13. The tweets are saying Shoppach and Beckett are possible for Texas. They can probably steal Beckett. The guy pitched well last year except for September, and has been victimized by the chicken-beer media BS. He's still a $10 mil pitcher, and holding onto him isn't bad compared to what they can get for him. Dealing Shoppy makes sense to open a spot up for Lav, who needs some ML catching experience now. A lotta people don't realize the media can damage a player's trade value by printing a lot of negative clubhouse stuff that may or may not be true. That hurt Youks trade value, and it will hurt Beckett. That's why teams detest leaks. But the Red Sox have such poor leadership they let the team get away from them, so they deserve it. It's time the season ticket holders had a protest in the stands--like they had when the Babe was stolen by the Yankees. That would open a few eyes.
  14. I'd like to see them move Beckett because I think Morales could take his place in a minute. Doubront-Morales-Lester--3 LHd starters who give them a good shot to win in Yankee stadium. Plus Miller in the BP--looking good. The other two starters? Buchholz and Aviles--after Bard-Bailey are back in the BP.
  15. I can't think of a single thing the front office did pre-season that was correct--in personnel decisions. The trades blew up in their faces. They knew Bailey was injury prone. Aviles was annointed SS, even though Iggy had won the job until he got hurt. And he's still mired in AAA. Ciriaco looked the best of the lot and was completely ignored. They missed the boat on him until injuries forced him into the lineup. They have outfielders like Sweeney on the roster while a superior player like Kalish is still rotting in AAA. They damaged Bard by moving him to starter--and cost the team a first rate setup or closer guy. Lav is still stuck in AAA, though he could well be their best all-around catcher right now. Well, they did do one thing right--they signed Ross.
  16. I'm beginning to think V is managing with one hand tied behind his back. I think the organization has a set way of doing things--even in a game--and the manager has to tow the line and connect the dots. Crawford stole 3 base his first game back. Then stopped. Ellsbury has stolen little since his return. The speed of neither has been used at the top of the order. Then CC takes a mysterious day off--after he had a day off the day before. You don't know what's going on with this organization. That's why it's hard to 2nd guess the "manager."
  17. This is the kind of stuff the media should be zeroed in on-- Is Valentine managing with one hand tied behind his back?
  18. I've been following the tweets--Olney and Heyman are NYkers--so damn negative about the Red Sox. Nobody wants Beckett. He eats chicken and drinks beer. BS. Passan tweets Beckett as a "dump". Hanley gets the royal treatment because he went to big market LA. Hanley was a dump, folks.
  19. I don't think they need to add anybody at this point. What they need is to get their own house in order. They need to straighten out their starting pitching. Get Morales back as a starter--in place of Cook. Put Ciriaco at SS instead of Aviles--who has been stuck in cement far too long there while Iglesias is rotting in Pawtucket. If Ciriaco can't hack it there defensively, bring up Iggy. Bring up Lav and have him competing with Salty. Carry 3 catchers and one less pitcher. Lav is a Yale grad, and should quickly pick up calling games properly. I would deal some of their excess--Shoppach, Sweeney, Albers. They will need spots for Bard and Bailey soon. If they dump Beckett, they have somebody for that slot--Cook, Morales or Aviles when Bard/Bailey return. I think Crawford should get his operation now unless they can deal him. He's almost useless the way he is being used. They won't let him steal a base--which is half his game. It's pretty laughable. What a f**king horrible organization. Who knew it would come to this. But collapses don't happen without incompetence in the management.
  20. they might have swept if Morales started the first game, but that's asking for a bit much from this brainlesstrust.
  21. Hey ben. wake up. they won. now go out and do your job--and get another starter.
  22. watching Olney's game tweets. talks like a Yankee fan.
