  1. The Sox don't play well as a team. They are never thinking one run. They seem to have lost their appetite for walks. They win on raw talent.
  2. Tito hasn't figured out where to bat Crawford, and you want Ichiro, too? Tito would be in nightmaresville.
  3. I think Miller needs more seasoning. Maybe he just hasn't been handled right. I don't think ratcheting down his fastball is the way to go. He has to show his heat, combine it with an off speed pitch, and find the plate. This isn't rocket science, you know.
  4. The one good thing I will say about Miller is he seems to keep the ball down. But he has no clue about location.
  5. Wilpon is lucky he hasn't been implicated in Madoff's problems. He should have sold the team by now--but owning the Mets is his fetish.
  6. I don't like what I see with Miller. He's a Randy Johnson type 95 lefty. Seems like they are making him throw 90 to throw strikes. But he ain't throwin' strikes.
  7. Maddon's GP: walks, walks, walks. Tito's GP: Do your thing, guys. Miller will live or die on his heat. Stop pussying this kid. This club is in trouble without Lester and Buchholz.
  8. If it's a matter of $6 million, Theo has pissed a lot more money away... a lot more. I doubt getting Beltran will come down to $6 million. He's a lot stingier giving up prospects. More of a hangup there. I see Clemens got off on a technicality. Legally, that is. He's guilty with the sportswriters. HOF dead. Watch the Yankees now try to lure Pettite out of retirement.
  9. From what I'm reading, there's competition for Beltran (Giants, etc), and the Mets figure they have some leverage to get a good prospect. Don't be surprised if they get Cuddyer. I saw him huddled a couple of times at the batting cage with several Red Sox players before the all-star game on MLB.com. Cuddyer is the type of player who would fit better in a platoon. And, no, he is not Wily Mo Pena in RF. I hope some of you guys get MLB.com. It's about the best thing Selig does.
  10. Focus on that RHd OF bat. That's what Theo has to get.
  11. Is Watson still in charge of this stuff in the ML office? He's an ex-Yankee who is always tough on Red Sox players. Fortunately, there is an appeal process. Papi deserves 4 games for being prima donna stupid.
  12. Olney and Heyman are both Yankee stooges out of NY. There is competition for Beltran. The Mets can be choosy.
  13. Jeter is everybody's favorite Yankee.
  14. Crawford doesn't get much chance to use his speed batting 6th. And he doesn't have that much power. You take away his stolen bases, and his agent would have had a hard time getting him the contract he got. Tito started the season batting CC 2nd. He eventually will bat 2nd again when he shows a consistent bat.
  15. Pedroia belongs on any all-star team, any year. Cano hits a 472 ft HR in the HR hitting contest. Cano? What's in the Yankees' gatorade this year? He did say his father was his pitcher. Had to have some effect.
  16. Yawkey was no more "racist" than the majority of those rich white baseball owners. Besides, the white players in those days were cut from a different cloth, too. Less tolerant as a group. The big exceptions were Branch Rickey and the guy who owned the Guardians and then the White Sox. What was his name?
  17. A lot depends on what is offered for Beltran by other teams, but the Mets are looking to unload salary, which means they don't have a lot of leverage. They would probably prefer to dump him in the AL. But he has a no-trade, so the Mets might be forced to deal with the Red Sox, whom he prefers right now.
  18. If you get the all-star coverage on MLB.com, did you see Cuddyer huddling with Youkilis, Ellsbury and Ad Gon a couple of times pre-game? What was that all about?
  19. I don't think the Twins will deal Cuddyer. They still think they are in it, and are hot right now. Watch out for the Yankees getting Garza. Theo is also looking for pitching options no doubt. Could be Bell. They need their top 3 starters healthy for the playoffs--Buchholz, not Lackey. Miller is the only other guy who could impact.
  20. Pap is a Boras guy. That makes his chances of sticking in Boston less. Besides, he is a bit suspect at this point, though he has rebounded some this year. Bell is certainly on their radar screen--with the close relations between the two teams. You know they don't want Bell in pinstripes--and the Sox will undoubtedly be given first dibs. The problem is the Sox don't like to pay BP pitchers big money.
  21. The lineup rocks without Crawford. The question is how do you get your $20 million worth out of this guy? They haven't solved that puzzle yet. One hint: 7 SBs. It's not Crawford OR Ellsbury--It's Crawford AND Ellsbury.
  22. If you look at the major league stats at the halfway point, the Red Sox are first in hitting and (surprise) defense--fewest errors. But in the middle of the pack in pitching (14th). BAA is among the best, but ERA is low--the Lackey effect? Also the effect, maybe, of a bullpen that gets used 3-4 times a game --win or lose. But that's baseball today.
  23. I'd still like to know what the Yankees are putting in their Gatorade to hit all those dingers. They are way ahead of everybody else in HRs, and funny not a word from the media about it.
