    \\ Not a great deal for the Giants, since Beltran's value has been built up in the media. The Mets figured somebody would bite. The Giants aren't going to beat the Phillies, regardless.

    Just look at it this way: they need another RHd bat in the lineup against LHP. Could be in the OF--Quentin, Francouer, etc. Or could be at SS. i.e., Hanley Ramirez. Hanley might be in the cards, since most trades are never known until made, anyways. They're might not be a better time to get him. The other need is a SP. I suspect they are playing a waiting game--to see what the Yankees do.

    The problem is so much of the sports media is located in the NYC area. Yahoo, CBS sports, ESPN, etc. Plus it's the biggest TV market. So the Yankees get on TV more than any other team. Even on MLB.com. And their players get a lot more visibility--including minor leaguers, who are overrated in the media. This kid Montero was being hyped as the next great catcher and trading chip. But why haven't the Yankees brought him up? Teams are not convinced. Salty has moved miles ahead of him in a few months.

    The ESPN guy (Tim Kurk...) is on now saying no takers for Beltran. Nobody wants to give up a top prospect. All that media buildup for Beltran has turned off the GMs. If the Mets deal him, it will be for a lot less than reported.

    They need a RHd bat who hits LHd pitching well, and who can play RF without killing himself. You can get somebody like that without giving up much. That's what they are looking for. Oh, and you can bet that Theo is trying to pry Hanley away from the Marlins. For that, he will give up the farm.

    Not surprised at the outcome. Tito finally had to go to a pitcher KC could hit. When are they going to drop this guy "R.Williams"? It brings back the memory of Tito going to Timlin in that extra inning playoff game against TB--when Timlin was a dead horse. And losing. This type of ballgame is not what the Red Sox do best. They are a bunch of $$ talents that still don't play that well as a team. They don't do fundamentals very well (suicide squeeze? yikes), because Tito is not a fundamentals guy. He is a big innings guy who pretty much lets the players hit away. It's not that these guys don't have good batting eyes and get walks. It's just that there is no pressure on them to force a run when runs are scarce. That could haunt them in the playoffs. But hey, they are winning a ton of games. You have to lose once in a while. Except maybe if you're the Yankees.

    Beltran, no. Too much media hype. 34 yo guy with bad knees and Boras as his agent. Will some sucker give up a good prospect for his rental? Not Theo.

    When I see "GM quotes" on MLB rumors saying "If I want to win now, I get Beltran", I wonder which NY network made it up. A better quote: "If I get Beltran, I better win now." LOL

    yeah, right. back pain comes with the territory. live with it, kid, like half the population. as long as it doesn't affect your delivery. these guys get MRI's like drinking water. Try to get your doctor to get you an MRI.They are $$, and insurance companies don't want to pay. The real world of health care.

    I don't like Beltran because he is being way overvalued by the media. The KC papers today are talking about Francouer maybe going to the Red Sox. But he's cheap and tied up next year--not the kind of player KC would deal. I think they'll wind up with somebody at the last minute they can get cheapest. Could be Francouer or Quentin or even Ludwick. Longshot special: blockbuster for Hanley Ramirez. That would solve their RHd hitting balance and SS problem with one player.
