  1. You're right. Came up through the Braves system. I seem to recall some early connect with the Red Sox, but no. Sorry about that.
  2. Francouer was in the Red Sox minor league syatem early on.
  3. Now is the time to get Hanley Ramirez. Get it done, Theo.
  4. That's the way it is with Tito. Good in most things except handling the pitching. He gives that job to the pitch count machine. Any fool except the pitch count machine would have had Wake in the showers after the first batter on base in the 7th. Grady Little all over again. The Red Sox will probably win this game, and it won't show up in the boxscore. But this is an example of why Tito will never win MOY.
  5. Watch them make a big deal for Hanley. That will shock everybody. Don't underestimate Theo's loyalties. The other guy I'm watching is Francouer. He came up in the Red Sox organization. But KC may be overvaluing him.
  6. Salty tries hard every second, and it's paying off. He keeps getting better.
  7. still think they'll wind up with another rhd bat in the of to replace Cameron.
  8. I see Silverman at the Herald was quoted in TradeRumors the Sox won't make a deal before the deadline. A sure sign they will, since he said the same last year--just before they made a deal. Jeff Conine of the Marlins FO was quoted as saying he would consider dealing Hanley Ramirez "if it were up to him." Wonder if there's any fire there.
  9. I think they'll get a RHd hitter, but I doubt it will be Beltran. I think the Mets are overvaluing him thanks to all the media they get in NY and the NY-based networks. The Mets have to realize that teams in other cities don't care about media buildup for a player. Maybe they see Beltran a little differently--a 34yo guy past his prime with bad knees.Plus he's a rental unless he signs an extension--fat chance with Boras.
  10. Their rotation rocks against the Red Sox with Hamels and Lee. The lineup imbalance is a weakness. Plus they have Halliday. The Red Sox lefties are not hitting LHP as well as RHP. You can look it up.
  11. The Rays should be buyers, not sellers. Hell, they are in the hunt.
  12. Yankees just lost 4-3 to the As. Theo may just do nothing. So far, so good. But the RHd bat in the OF will be needed in the playoffs. Nobody is going to beat the Phillies.
  13. I think they'll just wait 'till near the deadline when the price will drop for a lot of these guys. Ludwick is certainly a low price possibility. Getting Bell would be a plum--he's worth prospects. Pap is going to be hellish to sign with Boras. But a few other teams need Bell a lot more...
  14. I dunno. From that Henry quote this morning, it looks like Epstein may just do nothing. Hope not, because when he does nothing mid-season, they don't stay on top. He seems to be in one of his "don't trade the prospects" moods. That atitude, by the way, has been very successful in the past. Lester and Buchholz come to mind.
  15. 100% conclusion? How do you know an injury is not due to a lack of conditoning? I'm stating facts I've read. Dubront went into ST overweight. Sportswriters have said some Red Sox players looked like they weren't well-conditioned early in the season. Is there a correlation between conditioning and injuries? You betcha. Ever try to run a few miles without pre-stretching exercises? I watched Garciapara when he was young doing stretch exercises on the ground before and after ST games in Ft Myers. Conditioning is critical in avoiding injuries. The older you get, the more critical.
  16. After reading this, I get a couple of impressions: 1) it's far to early to be making any judgements on Iglesias' hitting. Most kids take a dip in their average coming up to AAA. Plus he's only 21. 6 months in AAA and the kid can't hit? Phooey. He looked good circling the bases in Boston scoring the tying run. Speed will help his offense if he can get on base. just play all-star defense, kid. 2) time to deal Dubront. Overweight coming into ST? That tells me his injuries are due to a lack of conditioning. You suspect that with a few of the other Red Sox players. Tito is much too laid back to be running a boot camp in Ft Myers. Maybe that explains the slow starts.
  17. take it and run, Theo. Better to have the Mets wait for Dubront to be healthy for a few minutes. Beltran could be a very useful DH in the AL in the future. I get the impression Beltran is steering a deal to Boston and the AL. He sees the DH coming, too, in his future.
  18. I haven't seen anything in Dubront that doesn't make him expendable for Beltran. In fact, the guy has done nothing but go from one injury to the next. The Sox have plenty of other pitching options. I don't believe Dubront would hold up a Beltran deal.
  19. Pence isn't a superstar, but he's still getting better--OBP is .361 this year. A multi-tool player who will hit well in Fenway. A good investment to play RF full time if they can get him without giving up Iglesias. It would cost them Kalish and another prospect for sure. They have the pieces. They may be saving their prospects for Pence (vs Beltran). We'll see. They could also wind up with Francouer for less. One thing they should not do is stand pat. The OF is too left-handed. After reading the Post article, I think Beltran is still in play. They probably have a fair idea of what they have to give up for each player mentioned above. Reddick is probably an excellent trade chip right now.
  20. Yeah. They really should be looking at Millwood before the trade deadline, instead of wasting innings on Wakefield.
