  1. If you want to pretend like you know more about baseball than me, I'd be happy to school you any day of the week. Phil Coke - 3.99 ERA, 7.28 K/9, 3.29 BB/9, 1.04 WHIP, .206 BABIP, 4.58 FIP Looks like he's been overperforming by about .60 points of ERA. His FIP is more telling than his WHIP. But then again, it's a lot harder to pretend you know about baseball than it is to pretend you're a doctor over the internet.
  2. Lowrie went 1-3 today (2B) with 2 walks. He's hit .289/.400/.421 in 12 games.
  3. I know, but it's so much more entertaining when Jacko says it. He gets so into it!
  4. If Coke and his 3.99 ERA is one of the Yankees better relievers as Jacko says, then their pen really does suck.
  5. I'm glad Red Sox fans aren't in such denial about their loses. I'd vomit if I had to read about how all our loses were Francona's fault and all our wins are because our team is awesome. The Angels flat outplayed you. They outpitched you, they outran you and they played better defense. That's why you got swept.
  6. Should be a fun game. Lowell is supposed to return to the team Friday as well. EDIT: The Jays were scouting him in his last start. They'll likely be in attendance on Friday. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/07/buchholz-called-up-scouted-by-jays.html I'm a little disappointed to see them showcasing Buchholz because I think he'll be a great starter one day. But hey, they're the experts, not me.
  7. Incredible game by Beckett. Nice to see the Red Sox offense producing again. And it was made even sweeter by the Yankees, Texas and Tampa all losing. We're up 3 in the division and 5.5 in the Wild Card.
  8. Hey Jacko, what were you saying about how Sabathia has pitched as well as Beckett? Hey Gom, what were you saying about the Yankees being the better team because they were gaining ground on us while they were on the road and we were at home? Awesome 3 game lead going into the All-Star break. That should take some wind out of those two guy's sails for a few days. Like I said when the Yankees were beating up on the Twins and had won 13 of their last 15, just wait until they face their kryptonite, the Angels.
  9. Come on, he's a SHELL of the player he used to be. The last two years he had a .792 OPS in similarly limited at bats and a .700 OPS. He's just not good anymore.
  10. Other than the sentimental value, what makes him a better player? He's a .267/.300/.387 hitter who can't field or stay healthy. Bates is a great defensive 1B, and you gotta believe he could do better than a .687 OPS.
  11. Beckett's at 72 pitches through 7 innings. His ERA is down to 3.40 and if he does manage the CG shutout it'll be down to 3.35.
  12. Nomar can't play defense and he's hurt all the time.
  13. And you keep managing to talk a lot without saying a whole lot of much. Doesn't take a genius to point out that a .400 SLG isn't wonderful. But kudos to you, it's one of the more insightful things I've ever seen you say on this site.
  14. Lowell's gonna be activated Friday. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/07/12/pressed_in_a_tight_spot_bard_looked_at_ease/?page=2
