    The Red Sox have gone 24-10 since June 1st (.705). That might be the best record in baseball over that span, I'm too lazy to look it up. Before Bay's slump we were a game out of second place, now we're 3 games up. And by no means is Jason Bay the clearly better player. RAR and WAR (which take hitting, fielding and positional importance into context) both have Drew as the much better player the last year and a half. Drew had a 41.5 RAR last year (4.1 WAR) and has a 22.1 RAR this year (2.2 WAR). Bay had a 29.4 RAR last year (2.9 WAR) and has an 18.6 RAR this year (1.9 WAR).

    I agree, over his career he's had a +2 UZR/150 I believe. The thing is, Youkilis is much more than just an "above average" defensive first baseman. He's an elite defensive first baseman.

    It's not just half a season in which Tex has had a UZR/150 in the negatives. He's had a UZR/150 in the negatives four of the last five years. Youkilis has never had a UZR/150 in the negatives at first base. And this is the third year of his career in which his UZR/150 at first has been at least +10.

    I do, and so would anyone with a basic understanding of sabermetrics. If you don't believe me google ZR and Orlando Hudson and prepare to be humbled. There's a reason ZR was improved upon. I like the use the best defensive stat available, call me silly for that if you want. But don't claim ZR is better than UZR when every sabermetrician in the world would disagree. Regardless, Youk has been the better hitter this year. You can't argue that unless: A ) You don't understand statics B ) You're a homer. You remind me of Jacko, which I haven't seen in a while, hmmm...
