  1. While it's unlikely that Buchholz won't be able to do better than Penny's 5+ ERA, if Buch sucks we still have Bowden, Masterson and Matsuzaka.
  2. Couldn't you just type it out then? What about NoMass? Can you copy text from there?
  3. He's not available DURING the season. But a trade in the offseason is definitely possible.
  4. If Bay doesn't take a reasonable contract, I'd let him go, sign Matt Holliday for cheaper and trade for Adrian Gonzalez. We wouldn't have a single subpar defensive player in our starting 9. There are plenty of ways which we could make up the difference in offense between Holliday and Bay, and be better, more fundamentally sound team overall.
  5. Trade him for a bag of balls then, I just want to make room for Buchholz.
  6. I agree that we should trade Penny to make room for Buchholz, and it has nothing to do with Penny's performance today. I suggested it yesterday. Nothing against Penny's he's done an alright job. He's been more solid than his numbers suggest. But I think Buchholz has the potential to do much better. And he's at the point that he's not getting anything out of AAA anymore, so to keep him there any longer is stunting his development. But I don't feel like NOW is the time to make a trade. We have plenty of time to wait and see how Smoltz does before we make a decision. And who knows, maybe Buchholz will break his toe or something in the next week. Come July 31st, however, I would like to see Buchholz given a spot in the rotation. If he struggles, we still have an absurd amount of depth in Bowden, Masterson and Matsuzaka.
  7. It obviously counts the same as any other win. Just using the game thread for what the game thread is for.
  8. Yup, Lester vs. Halladay tomorrow which I think is a pitching matchup that favors us. He has a career 4.46 ERA against us and he's struggled lately (ERA over 5 this month). Lester's pitched well against the Jays and he done some of the best pitching of his career lately (1.48 ERA since June 1st). Hopefully we'll get the game in the standings right back.
  9. Oh, no! Kill me now
  10. Because he singed a multi-year extension prior to 2006, he has the ability to demand a trade after this season (mid contract) if he's traded. And if we didn't trade him, he'd become a free agent March 15th. Do you really want to trade our best prospects for what could potentially be a 3 month rental?
  11. Oh well. Lester's pitching tomorrow (even if he is facing Halladay).
  12. I have to say, the Jays made the right call sending Tallet (who we would have seen in this game) to the bullpen yesterday. The lefty they started today did very well.
  13. I hope Girardi takes that umpire out to dinner tonight.
  14. Yeah, what will make it even worse is that the Yankees are currently winning by a run that they acquired when Melky Cabrera was thrown out at first, on what should have been the 3rd out, but the umpire blew it. And the Yankees other run was an A-Rod pop up into the first row of seats in right field.
  15. Yeah, I haven't seen him play much defense, but I have to assume with the way he's running that his defense hasn't improved any.
  16. Yeah, I don't see the Red Sox acquiring any pitchers, that's for sure. I wouldn't be surprised to see them get another bat though, maybe just a bench player.
  17. 2-1 Yankees, the difference in the game is the umpire's blown call on Melky's "infield single".
  18. Ouch, the ump blew that call. Melky was out, instead it's an infield single and an RBI. It will suck if Verlander gets the loss, he's pitched better than Sabathia.
