    Rice shouldn't be throwing stones at Manny for having dreads. I remember Rice having an Afro so big, he could barely get his ballcap on. He reminded me of Linc on the Mod Squad.

    The Red Sox released outfielder Chris Duncan, according to Dan Barbarisi of the Providence Journal. Duncan came to the Red Sox from St. Louis in the July 22nd swap for shortstop Julio Lugo. Duncan, 28, hit just .188/.255/.294 in 92 Triple A plate appearances for the Sox. Meanwhile Lugo has flourished with a .319/.367/.528 line in 81 plate appearances for St. Louis (with Boston paying the freight). Keep in mind that the Red Sox are also set to receive a player to be named later or cash as part of the trade. Duncan crushed right-handed pitching in 2006-07, but has been derailed by injuries since.

    John Smoltz has always been a class act. I agree, it's a shame his short time in Boston was an expensive bust. But you gotta do what ya gotta do to win.

    Perhaps Lugo's departure will exorcise the ghost of Stan Papi.

    J. D. is like Nomar - a talented ballplayer with a putty body that you can't give you a full season. I followed his act in Atlanta and saw it here in L.A. Now, it's our show and we have to deal with it.

    Nomar is a putty body. Always has been, always will be. He's old, his defense/offense is in question and he was a cancer in the clubhouse. Remember, that's why we got rid of him when we did.

    Wake's knuckler always gets going when the weather warms up. It's Penny I'm worried about. I saw him self destruct in L.A. and, if it wasn't for the great run support he's gotten, he'd be 1-6.
