  1. Absolutely! I just believe that with a probability of "under performance" by the incumbents at the corners and the probability that both Vasquez and Hannigan will be very good behind the plate, more wins may be had with those guys at catcher while Swilhart plays a corner. That would seem to me putting the best foot forward.
  2. Normally he would be the starting 1st baseman. But the Hanley situation sort of f***s him. Hopefully if Hanley is a stiff Shaw will play.
  3. I'm with you on this. People can argue that his best value is at catcher but if we already have two very good catchers and playing time is lessened for him then he is of little value. He has experience at 3rd and he certainly has the athleticism for infield play. He's a .280 hitter already. More doubles, triples, and homers will come so the argument that he does not have the offensive profile for a corner infielder is kind of shallow. I say put your best athletes on the field at all times.
  4. You've seen him. He looks sort of Asian and has the spiked hair and all. I have no big problem with him because he has formed some relationships with players and does some good interview with guys like Mookie. But really, I just want to know about the game and baseball. Kimmi, you are too young to remember but long ago '60's, '70's......TV 38 and Ch 5 had really good ballpark reporters with next to zero fluff. I remember Ken Coleman and Don Gillis used to have baseball lessons with the players on the pre-game shows. For instance, he had Yaz explain and demonstrate how to read and get jumps. How to catch the ball properly ( we don't see much of that now ). He also had George Scott "Da Boomah" ( THE BEST 1ST baseman in Sox history! ) explain and demonstrate proper footwork and fielding techniques, etc. You would have loved it.
  5. The Sox do a s*** ton of marketing directed at youth ( through their parents ). I can understand why. Got to bring in new fans and get them hooked for life. But jeez, I hate most of the promotional stuff. I'm old school. I'm an old fart.
  6. I think that we had a good woman sideline reporter in Tina Servacio (SP). She asked real questions and was very affable. Since then there has been a parade of bimbi. As I said, Heidi was nice. I say this because I actually met her in 02/2011 when Username? and I went to Fenway for a tour. We spent about 5-10 minutes talking with her at the souvenir shop. I'm not super into blonds but she was really beautiful and was smart and friendly. f*** was she tall! I'm 5'7".
  7. I agree that eye candy is not essential. Sideline reporters should report relevant info and not waste our time with the fluff. It's just marketing to men, I guess.
  8. I liked Heidi. Not because she was a beauty Queen. She was just nice.
  9. I don't want to insult you in any way. I am aware that you know your s*** when it comes to baseball. But, how many years have you watched players perform in lf at Fenway? I've been watching since 1966. I've seen some truly terrible left fielding. Really f***ing bad both from the Sox and other teams. Manny was not among the worst and was only occasionally embarrassingly bad. In fact, he made himself into one of the better LF in Fenway that I have seen in certain situations. He learned that wall and it caroms. He could bare hand a ball off the wall and peg it into second very well. Yeah, he did loaf and take some plays off!!! We all seem to remember those plays. But the discerning baseball eyes saw his progress and in some cases exceptional play. Manny had some bad habits and did some really stupid things while with the Sox. But as MVP said, he was good enough. At least when he wanted to be. Hanley never even tried to become good. And yes, being one of the best RH hitters in the game afforded him some latitude.
  10. The more I think about it the more I am accepting this possibility. They f***ed-up the process from the get-go. They should have signed him at the end of the 2013 season regardless of what Lester or the Sox say. When they made that stupid offer in the spring of 2014 it was already too late. Then they made the 6/135 or so offer just as he was deciding to go to LA or Chicago. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB. Unless they really did not want him.
  11. And it probably won't take long before he starts. In addition to giving the starters a blow now and then ( I highly recommend this, especially with Laptop and Cy Kelly ), one or more of the starters is bound to have elbow or shoulder tightness or some other malady du jour and Wright could be the guy to make those starts. Last year at this time I asked the board who would be the sixth starter. This year the Sox have pretty good depth in the 6-9 spots. I have always liked Wright but if he falters Owens, Workman, and Johnson will be there. I understand Workman has a way to go in rehab so he will probably be low man on the totem pole at the beginning of the season. f*** I can't wait for games!!!!!
  12. Of course the fly in the ointment could be Castillo. He has not blossomed. He needs work in all phases of the game and needs to stay healthy.
  13. Wow. I missed that announcement. Max benefit of having JBJ is using him in center but I did not expect that they would move Betts so soon.
  14. I love seeing players wearing leggings. Lol.
  15. Not so. I happen to think that Boggs was a great two way player having been one of the best contact hitters I had seen and of course he did make himself into a GG 3rd baseman. He said and did stupid things. No crime there except if he was an adulterer. He was and probably remains a creep.
  16. JBJ is in center? When was this announced? I thought that Betts was penciled in there. Also, I believe it is unrealistic at this point to expect JBJ to have an OBP near .350. I'd expect .320-.330 at best. Who knows?
  17. I resemble that remark young lady!!!!! I don't totally disagree with you on this. Certainly the Sox rotation can use whatever qualified help it can get. Maybe Price is a super guy and has mentoring and teaching qualities. That is cool. But do we really think that he will have a significant affect on game performances of his peers? Maybe! I'm all for it. I just think that historically fans have given this process to much credit and mention.
  18. But stupid people can be arrogant. You may be right, of course. In any case this guys is just a f***ing dumb ass.
  19. One would think so. In any case the agent and attorney for that player should know or at least prioritize knowing about the tests. My guess is this guy is just f***ing stupid.
  20. Photoshop.
  21. If "he" is me, then no. I meant any drafted player that makes it or not in any period of time.
  22. Interesting stuff. Thanks.
  23. Does anyone know the probability of a newly signed prospect making it to the bigs and being at least replacement level? I'd love to see that number.
  24. lulz.
  25. Hannigan is a luxury this team can afford to have. Especially if my idea of moving Swihart to 3rd or 1st is adopted.
