  1. I've been biting my lip about this guy so far. I'm liking the Young acquisition better and better.
  2. Hanley actually looked pretty decent at 1st from what I saw tonight.
  3. He'd likely capsize a container ship.
  4. I saw it. Yes, overall, he was not effective. But he also suffered some bad luck. He kept the ball on the ground a lot but several soft hit grounders got through producing runs.
  5. Yeah. He needs to get a s*** ton more hits.
  6. I don't understand what a knuckleball project is. I do think that by nature that pitch is harder to replicate pitch to pitch. Never the less, when a knuckleballer is on he is very effective. Like many pitchers. And why no patience with Owens? He is what? 22? If he was 25-27 I would say his arc would not be promising. He is young and eager. I see no reason why he can not be more than a #5 on a low rent staff. That is ridiculous.
  7. Dojji bringing the lulz.
  8. This is true, of course. As for Ted's observations, I tend to give it some credence. The guy does have some skill in evaluating baseball talent.
  9. I have been thinking this too. But today Owens had a rough outing. There are many who know ( or pretend to know ) far more about pitching than me. I happen to like Owens because he is pretty intense on the mound and seems smart. I have no idea if he has the command and finish to be anything more than a place holder for now.
  10. I find it hard to believe that Hanley has played so many years and can't catch a pop-up. He may not have the instincts to play 1st yet. But I have to believe that he can catch a pop-up. Still, Ted's observation is curious. I would hope that Hanley would make the required effort in any game situation.
  11. Possibly. Or Owens. Or both! Who knows at this point?
  12. I think that it is very easy for fans to ( I use the Boston vernacular here ) "overexaggerate" things. I can very easily visualize Hanley flubbing routine plays at 1st. But I also agree that he has to be given a legit chance to succeed before we all condemn him. Yes, his reputation precedes him. But he was a very good athlete not long ago. And that bat should always play. There will be plenty of time to s*** on him later.
  13. Somehow I missed the fact that the patella was dislocated. I have had this happen many times over the past 15 or so years. He will at the very least have to do many strengthening exercises for his quads. Time for plan B if all this stuff is true.
  14. Always love that MVP wit.
  15. I was asking if anyone was concerned when it happened. Now you know why I asked the question. As far as the depth of the staff and how it may compensate for a loss of E-Rod for any period, I think that after Price it's all pretty much schlock. This team is deep 2-8 but they are all mediocre pitchers like 4-5 types. Things will get really rosy if E-Rod does not step up and then Buch makes his annual vacation before the break. This year has the potential to be really fun. And it has the ability to be more of the same s*** we have witnessed for the past two years. I'll just roll a fatty and wait.
  16. I look forward to Ted's ST reports each year. I think I remember him saying that Travis Shaw had a live bat last ST. Never would have known that by looking at his MiLB stats.
  17. But Shaw is the odd man out because they owe Hanley so much money. I'm sure that he will make an excellent defensive replacement and should Hanley completely s*** himself Shaw will be there to replace him. We should be thankful that the Sox have org depth at this important position.
  18. I suspect bad parenting. The kid probably was not taught proper values, etc.
  19. No. North Attleboro, Ma.. I've seen him play on TV now 2-3 times. What Ted says is what I have seen.
  20. There we have it!!!!! The definitive assessment!
  21. On the other hand, Paplebon has been pretty good for quite a while. Carson Smith has not. Although he does have youth on his side. Right now I'd take Smith.
  22. That Travis kid looks to be the goods ( SSS ). He can field and he makes good contact.
  23. That throw from Hannigan was dead nuts. Pablo looked foolish.
  24. An iconic moment. Like getting in A-Roid's face. I can never see those two plays too much.
