  1. Are you talking about Young? Young makes $2.5 mil / year? I thought it was $6.5 Mil / year.
  2. Hence my assertion that he has the heart of a lion. Price is also pretty f***ing smart. A lot like Pedro in that regard. He will be fine.
  3. Can't disagree with this. Although I can't see the Sox paying his tab with the current payroll. He may be a total DB but he is still a productive reliever.
  4. I had similar concerns about Hanley going to first. So you were hardly alone in your opinion. Fortunately he has applied himself and as a result, he is making all the plays. I'm glad that I was wrong. Now I am just waiting for it to warm up so he produces more with the bat. I still see him as a premium hitter in MLB.
  5. I see no urgency for either Castillo or Swihart. Sure, I would really like to see Castillo play well enough to be a full time LF for Boston. But so far he has not demonstrated sufficient skill to do so. Regardless of the cost, he needs to play MiLB ball full time until he does have the skills. I thought getting rid of DeAzza and replacing him with Young was kind of stupid but everyone here po-pooed my opinion at the time. If young hits lefties then fine, I guess. So far he has done nothing offensively. I'm coming around to Kimmi's way of thinking on the issue of having Holt start at LF every day. I do think that he can handle the position well enough to be better than replacement level, but would prefer to have a legit LF with corner outfield power. That is not happening anytime soon. I do like Holt better as a super sub and want him in the lineup every day. Unfortunately, we now have competent players at every one of his 6 other positions so where and when does he play? As for Swihart, His bat, while not fully developed, is at least MLB ready. We saw that last year. We also saw weakness in blocking pitches and that hole in his game is still there. I am no expert on framing, presentation, game calling, etc. so I just assume that he can only get better with everyday playing time in Pawtucket. He will be back, assuming that he is not dealt. Vazquez, I believe, can hit well enough to be our number 1 catcher. Certainly his work behind the plate justifies him starting, anyway. Hannigan is too valuable to this team now. I say he needs to be the number 2 catcher. Of course the entire situation is fluid.
  6. It is my belief that a pitcher can still be an "Ace" when his FB velo diminishes. The good ones are smart pitchers and adjust. Still, I hope Price gets full command of his FB and his velo comes back.
  7. Wright was good again. Can't complain about him at all. Quintana was dealing from both sides. Can't win them all.
  8. Shaw and Wright. Because not very many people had much confidence in them starting the season. In fact, many people probably assumed that Wright was kept only because he was out of options. And Shaw was seen as unproven even after his great 60 games last year.
  9. Exactly my response when I heard the lineup on NESN. Never the less, GO SOX!!!!!!1!!!!
  10. You know me Doc. I don't generally patronize. I believe that the Yankees will perform better this season. They have to, right?
  11. I always blame his poor performance on him being a lunkhead. But really, it could be a lack of confidence as well. Regardless, his overall lack of consistency is not what this team needs and it is something that I no longer wish to see every 5 days.
  12. I am Spudboy and I approve of this post.
  13. So what does you rant have to do with me?
  14. I do understand you. And I do believe that I have at least a little understanding of Dominican pride. My comment was just to point out the obvious. Ortiz and some other people with dark skin have African heritage. That somewhere along the line someone in their family tree was from Africa.
  15. Born: August 11, 1986 (age 29), Puerto Cabello, Venezuela
  16. A man with his mass hits the ground with great force. Obviously the earth can absorb much of that energy. The structure of his shoulder can not do this quite as well. It's easy to see how he could have sustained that injury by watching one of his last games when he went thud.
  17. Hmmm. This conversation has fail written all over it. However, while not "African -American", Ortiz clearly has African DNA. The idea that he was born and raised on a Spanish speaking island does not change that.
  18. Pablo is from Puerto Rico?
  19. I don't understand why some think making Pablo the 2017 DH is a good idea. Just to derive some value for his contract?
  20. Neither do I. I don't believe I need to explain "heart of a lion" when describing Price. I've watched his entire MLB career. Anyone who has done the same knows what I am speaking about. He is known for not only his immense talent, but for his competitive nature as well. In stark contrast to "dear in the headlights" Buch. Maybe I have imagined that they have a different temperament. I guess that would mean that most everyone else has as well.
  21. It is impressive. But he was a 3rd baseman through college and only moved to 1st because he was blocked by higher rated 3b in the system. That and probably the fact that he has an unlikely physique for a 3rd baseman. Yeah, he's not Machado, but I'm glad he is on my team. By the way, Machado is a f***ing punk. A talented punk, but a punk never the less.
  22. Just more evidence that Price is a far superior pitcher with a heart of a lion. Comparing the two makes no sense at all. They are both pitchers. That is true! But they are in no way comparable. Good point Dojji.
  23. I was 11 and newly transplanted to the Boston area in 1967. I had never seen a baseball game and had never touched a baseball. What an introduction to baseball!!!!
