  1. I may be getting confused here, but as I recall from watching the NESN feed that bad calls in question were simply very bad. I'm not talking about a borderline pitch on the very edge of the zone. At least one of the bad calls was on a meatball right down the pike.
  2. Absolutely. I am having a running debate with a friend on Facebook about changes the Sox may need to make to progress to the playoffs and WS. He says we need Braun or Cargo to play left field. Um, no! We need pitching!!!
  3. You may not be comfortable with it but you can type and post dickhead and other colorful words here. As long as you are not labeling another member as such. No biggie one way or another.
  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmen_Fanzone No mention of the beaning.
  5. Lol. Never heard that story. Yeah, that stance was a perfect copy of Yaz's. Too bad he could not hit like Yaz. Help me here, please? I' trying to remember a guy the Sox brought up after he had been in the minors for way too long. His first at bat in the majors he got beaned. Who was that? I think that he had an ethnic ( Italian ? ) name.
  6. I don't disagree with anything you have said.
  7. I agree. I used to follow the ABA as best as I could, even before Julius was drafted by the Virginia Squires. That league was so fun to watch. Most teams had at least one guy who specialized in 3 pointers. Guys like Mack Calvin, Billy Melchiore, and George Lehman. In fact Lehman's 3 point shot had a name "Screamin' Lehmans", lol. He had the advantage ( I guess ) of having a googley eyeball which looked in another direction from his other eye. It used to f*** other players up not knowing where he was going to go! The 3 point shot was introduced as a novelty to help the struggling league gain popularity. It was rarely used as a weapon nor was it the focus of a team's offensive strategy. All teams tried to have a big man in the middle who played with his back to the rim and who's job it was to protect the rim, block shots, rebound, and score follow up baskets. The NBA has gotten away from that style of play. It now has every team with one or two 7 footers standing on the perimeter passing the ball or bombing away along with all the guards and swingmen. To me, it makes for boring play.
  8. That is if you see Curry as the best player in the league. I don't. But it is of no importance, really.
  9. Miller was good. How about the pride of Danbury, Ct.? Joe LaHoud!!!!!!
  10. I fondly remember all of those guys. One time, early in a game, I was sitting beside the visitor's bullpen watching the game. Reggie Smith was in right field. He was bent over looking toward the plate. I remember seeing his ass and muscular legs ( no homo ) and his afro sticking out from his cap. I also saw a Dilinger sized schlong dressed down his right leg. I have not spoken about this until now. Lol. The things you see and remember!
  11. You have not committed any crime as far as I can tell. And your age and experience as a fan are valued by others here I am sure. I say post what you feel. I like what you say and how you say it. Of course I am an old fart so what the f*** do I know?
  12. Lol. I just wonder if anyone else even remembers Jose. Lol.
  13. And what the f*** do you know? Old men and their memories. Jeez! Lol. I totally agree with what you said.
  14. Honestly I do not remember Dewey being great defensively as soon as he arrived. That is not to say he was not. Just that I do not remember that exactly! Betts arm may never be what Evans arm was, true. But at least he can learn where to throw, how to get his feet and body into position to make that throw and to make the throw with accuracy and authority. There should be no need for him to be labeled as a Damon or Ellsbury Rag type arm. He should become better.
  15. That is one man's opinion, apparently.
  16. Of course we could be accused of selective or even failing memory. I don't think so. I believe that between a700, you, and myself, we have seen a large sample and judge his play objectively. Whatever.
  17. Not according to some! "Rice was a bad outfielder his entire career - but like Manny, he was a bad outfielder who knew how to play Fenway ... which as we've learned has little to do with more general outfield defense traits." My guess is that that statement is based on dWar or some other stat. I watched Rice play from the moment he came up. I disagree.
  18. Certainly Evans was far superior to what we currently have with Betts. I love what I see from Bettts and can see that he may become much better than what he is currently. He has tools that Dewey never had ( more speed and possibly a better bat ) but as of now he is not capable of doing things like throwing to bases, the cut-off, or to the plate like Evans. That's no knock on the kid. Evans made himself into a great defensive right fielder. I think Betts will do this as well. How come my boy Jose Tartebul gets no love?
  19. The new members just have to learn how to roll with how things go here at Talksox. The members here have always been pretty accommodating of new members.
  20. Strange and unnecessary.
  21. Yes. Additionally, placing Buch in the bullpen has created the need to send Hembree ( say what you will about him, overall he has been good ) back down to Pawtucket in order to activate E-rod. I realize that there will be a constant flow of pitchers and reserve players moving back and forth between AAA and The Show and that Hembree will be back up at some point. I just wonder if Buch will be able to replace Hembree until such time that Hembree returns or when Buch is otherwise dispensed with. Buch could turn into another Eckersley but I very much doubt it.
  22. I can see that happening, sure.
  23. You should have a f***ing blast. Just bring money. Nothing is cheap here. And if you have the time, make sure to take the Fenway Tour. That is a bargain and very interesting.
  24. Rice had some major giddy-up for a big man. He had really good speed on the bases. And yes, he did make himself into a pretty competent LF. Many never really saw this because He followed Yaz ( the best ever ) out there. Just my observation. I will not attempt to justify or support my opinion with stats.
