  1. The Sox had a major boner for Salty. I imagine it was the promise of power? Swihart is clearly the stronger prospect of the two in just about every way not called long ball power. It's not even close. And anyone who has watched him play and particularly bat has to see that this kid is special. I'm sure any team and all scouts would love to have him.
  2. While it does appear increasingly likely that Swhart gets traded, I still think that he is one of the three or four best young athletes on the team. You can not teach his speed. And he has a real MLB bat now. Too bad there seems to be no place for him on the 25 man roster.
  3. I remember watching other boys play some card game. I did not like to do it myself because I valued my cards too much and money was really hard to come by. I was wicked good at the paper triangle football game and the three penny "hockey" game.
  4. I like Cora as well. My guess is that someone from the current staff will be promoted.
  5. Any love for Fernando Rodney? He has a screwy year in 2016. But he still has his stuff, I think. He is old. Maybe we can get him on a decent short deal. DD is familiar with him.
  6. My guess is that EE stay in Toronto or goes to a New York team. Beltran does make sense on a short deal.
  7. EE is more than a DH and will command more money. The Chapman money is insane and can not be used in any comparison.
  8. Papi was stuck in the AL and got paid decent money for a "part time player". EE has the ability to play a position full time so he can be marketed to both leagues. Papi may have set the precedent for pay at DH in Boston, but comparisons to EE are apples to oranges in my view. EE is also much younger now that Ortiz was the past few years.
  9. You know what I mean. Wise ass. I'm surprised you did not tell me that all squirrels die.
  10. Of course we had to have laundry clips! I doubt that many of our members ever did this. Just the old guys!
  11. I blind squirrel would die. Especially if it was blind at birth.
  12. I am with you on this. I don't like the idea that "there are other ways of strengthening the lineup" or that Papi can be replaced in other ways. If you lose 3/100 all at once, you should look to replace most or all of it at once. That makes the most sense. Counting on increased WAR from other players is just dumb. I still like my idea of snagging both EE and Beltran. Move Hanley to 3rd, put EE at first, and let Beltran DH. Of course one can mix and match during the season. Grab some schlock BP arms and throw them at the wall. Done.
  13. I never heard one word of pitchers discontent with Swihart. As for your post, it is an example of what I said.
  14. So you don't believe that his girlfriend or Wife had anything to do with his decision to leave? I say that it's possible.
  15. I think that many here are overstating Swihart's defensive deficiencies. He is not a huge liability behind the plate. He is just not as good as the other two options at the moment. He can improve his defense. His bat is ready now.
  16. Not resigning Miller was a f***-up. Normally I agree with Kimmi on signing large and lengthy contracts for relievers. Miller is one of the good ones with wipe-out stuff and plenty left in the tank. He would have been the best pen arm on the Sox. Oh well.
  17. If Leon does not fall off a cliff offensively and a healthy Swihart gets meaningful AB this is very possible.
  18. Non-issue.
  19. Maybe pussy was involved?
  20. I made my comment under the assumtion that Buch would start the season in the pen.
  21. Maddon reminds me of some men that used to hang around the VFW hall and consume Shlitz and pickled eggs. Gray straggly beard growth, soiled eye glasses, and chunks of crunched food in their teeth.
  22. I guess not many people here have spent years upon years of working with and for major d-bags. I have done it. And for a lot less money than Theo. a700 has a valid point. If Theo had stuck around he could have ruled baseball in Boston for a long time. He chose to cash in and bolted. I've done that too. The problem is that major d-bags exist everywhere. The grass is only greener for a while.
  23. My only problem with Theo leaving is that he left those three s*** stains to run the team.
  24. If anything, he should spend some time with Pedroia in Arizona becoming stronger and more fit for 162 + games.
