  1. Dipre stated many times that he played on "s*****" teams (apparently trying to imply he could have somehow been better if he didn't play on "s*****" teams). I simply showed, quite completely, that he played most of his career on non-"s*****" teams. I have not argued that his win total should keep him out of the HOF. Sorry to disappoint you.
  2. Who's arguing for wins? That's your strawman.
  3. JD Drew will never make the HOF. Even though he will finish his career with a better OPS than many current members of the HOF, he won't even sniff it. Care to guess why?
  4. Well, Lowell is still alive, so that's enough proof to most educated people he didn't do roids during his major league career.
  5. Really? Do you know what steroids do to people with cancer?
  6. Anything over .500 is better than average. And a FAR cry from "s*****" teams his whole career.
  7. Gammons on EEI this morning said he talked with the API people and Dice is in outstanding shape. He might come back with a vengeance.
  8. Seriously, I think the pitching staff has a chance to be spectacular. Bringing in Lackey was an excellent move. Their 1-5 if healthy can dominate. On offense, if age doesn't catch up with Cameron, I think he'll be a good hitter in Fenway. Not so optimistic about Beltre. Scutaro will provide stability to that position and can produce runs. The big question is Ortiz. If he learns to bunt, he could hit .450. The bench is much better with Hermida, Hall and Tek.
  9. Well, we do know they're projected to score fewer runs. And that means fewer RBIs.
  10. Yesterday the team needed someone who could tackle. Like Vrabel.
  11. Nobody disputes the fact that he accumulated a lot of stats over his 22 years. The question is what standard you set for the HOF. If it allows for a guy who only twice in 22 years was considered one of the seven best starters in his league, then your standards are a lot lower than mine.
  12. You were making an excuse for his lousy record. The excuse was not supported by the facts, as other pitchers with better records were on much worse teams than Blyleven. Anyway, the traditional acumulative qualifiers for the HOF (300 wins, 500 HRs, 3000 hits) are no longer valid imo. While Blyleven might have garnered more votes if he had attained 300 wins, I still wouldn't have thought him Hall worthy. But that's just me.
  13. Actually, Blyleven played on decent teams most of his career. Only in 8 of his 22 seasons did his team have a losing season and his teams' winning pct was .511 for his career. Compare that to Phil Neikro who played on some Braves teams that won only 60 some odd games a year.
  14. Alomar will get in, probably next year. Barry Larkin, who has very similar numbers and was an MVP and multi gold glove winner, will probably get in too. Much deserved, imo.
  15. Doesn't the Globe own part of the Red Sox? Or did they sell their share last year when they almost went bankrupt?
  16. This is the most persuasive argument I've seen. On a different note, can anyone make a case for Harold Baines or Dwight Evans now that Andre Dawson and Jim Rice are in?
  17. He's the Harold Baines of pitchers. Maybe Harold will get in on his 15th try.
  18. Well, he's not in yet. So there are still some voters who might agree with me. I'd like to see the age split of the voters. I suspect those who vote for him are younger.
  19. I always felt the HOF was for great players. Bert Blyleven was not a great player. I always considered Early Wynn, Jim Bunning and Phil Neikro the worst pitchers in the HOF. If Blyleven gets in, he'll own that distinction.
  20. Fangraphs defaults to team UZR when it ranks team defense. Take it up with them.
  21. DER doesn't account for differences in GB/LD/FB. That's probably why Fangraphs defaults to UZR.
