Jeter is in the top group, but it's pretty crowded. His longevity helps him against current players who maybe played the position and hit better for a shorter time, like Arod, Nomar, Tejada, Hanley, etc.
Against the all-time greats, it's pretty hard to say he was better than Honus Wagner, Ernie Banks, Arky Vaughn, Joe Cronin, Joe Sewell or Cal Ripken. He's the Yankee version of Barry Larkin, perhaps a better hitter but not as good a glove. Definite Hall of Famer, obviously.
