  1. It took me a while to properly enjoy all the facets of that picture.
  2. For the record I'm sure Dunn would be removed late in games due to his defensive inefficiencies...
  3. The Astros are a 2nd half team though, so I'm not sure they'd be that put off with some struggling in the first half. They'd have to be WAY out of it before they think about trading anyone.
  4. Although, one should point out that Tex was originally drafted by the Red Sox...and didn't sign. If only we were able to sign some of the better players that we drafted that got away. Errrgghh.
  5. Also I doubt reported weight is the actual weight. Same with height. For example, isn't Miguel Cabrera listed at 240???
  6. In addition, Dunn would be able to be used to help with matchups, and can fill in when players are hot/cold (not just injured). And by rotating with the other players I think it would make them most rested for the playoffs (knock on wood) and it would help prevent injury. In hindsight I doubt it'll happen, but it seems like an idea worth investigating. Besides, I bet there'll be a few good players available at the trade deadline when teams cannot afford to pay them and the Sox can get them at a bargain. We might see this thread bumped up again in a few months if a team like the O's/Nats signs him.
  7. His average certainly will drive me nuts...but I think him leading the team in HR's and having solid RBI's being on an already good offense would alleviate the pain. Sure, he might not get as many due to less AB's, but it would be like adding another row or 2 of tires for your car to protect from people shooting them. Dunn would be the ultimate protection from an injury to Drew, Bay, Lowell, Youk, or Ortiz and for a few games on end should result in similar production (in the end goal of runs). Dunn is kind of like the kid in basketball that has an ugly shot which goes in. You can argue all you want about how bad he looks playing and how he can't play defense, but at the end of the day he gets the job Dunn (pun intended) Besides, weren't we paying Varitek 10 million to hit .220 for us. I'm sure Dunn is better at 5-7 million and hitting .235-.240.
  8. I agree with most of the posts (Thanks for the shoutout DipreG) although I can see Papelbon pulling a Johnny Damon, it shouldn't happen in the near future. I believe that if for some reason Epstein and company let Papelbon go, it would be because they felt something was wrong with him. I don't think they'd willingly let a healthy and dominant Papelbon go to the Yankees. Papelbon does seem greedier than some of the other Sox players, but again that is just my opinion. I won't worry about it until he actually sells his soul, errhm...signs with the Yankees. For the record I want Papelbon on the Sox as long as humanly possible.
  9. We'll just overuse him beforehand like the Brewers with CC Sabathia...we may even get Papelbon fat as well... We will make good use out of the Yankees draft picks...
  10. I thought the arguing was going to cool down with edhof or whatever his name is taking a break from posting. I guess some things don't change 'round here...
  11. Well...yes, money is certainly a factor for all of them...but it seems to be more so for Papelbon than say Pedroia, Youkilis etc.... I mean Papelbon isn't acting as badly as Ryan Howard or anything...but there's something unsettling about Papelbon's fetish for money...
  12. At least outside of Weiters and Matusz and maybe one more pitcher....
  13. For now I'm happy. Pap is a damn fine closer and 6.2 million certainly seems reasonable. I hope we get something done to lock him up, but Papelbon does seem to be about the money more than I'd like so it would cost a lot to lock him up.
  14. Yeah, with the economy this way the AAV of salaries should probably increase over the next few years to Dunn might want to bite the bullet on a short team deal and give it another go in 1-2 years. Although it'd be a hard fit for Dunn with the Sox, my point all along is mainly that 5 million/year is too good of a price to pass. People will get injured, people will go on cold spells. I agree with bosoxnation07, I doubt we'll have trouble finding him at bats. I just have a nasty feeling that somebody is going down and we're going to kick ourselves for not jumping the gun on Dunn. That is if the 5 million is actually legitamite. My post doesn't mean as much if Dunn actually signs for 10+ million.
  15. I just assumed that everyone in the Orioles system was on the MLB team...I didn't know they were holding any punches...haha j/k
  16. Well you could have a minimum number of at bats required, much like one won't win a batting title for going 5/10 even though he batted .500 for the season. The number of AB's however, is very typically put into contracts, Baldelli's and Kotsay's for 2 specific and recent examples.
  17. Awww...but it was making my pathetic life seem worth something...rats. I think I'm going to cry myself to sleep now.
  18. It could depend on if anyone is injured, who's hot/cold, pitcher vs. batter matchups, who needs a day off, or take out Lowell or Youk if it's a RHP. Obviously there's some work to be done, you're right about that, I'm arguing at 5 million/year I'll take Dunn regardless. If it doesn't work out you'll probably have one of the better tradeable assets in the game in Dunn with a cheap contract. That should net us a huge prospect/package in return if things don't work. My point is that I think it's too good of an oppotunity to say "it won't work, no bother trying" since it's cheap, doesn't cost us a draft pick, and can be tradeable if necessary.
  19. Or a National. That move would make sense for them. I'm personally torn on the issue. I've grown to like Dunn more and appreciate his OBP more over the years, but the Sox still don't have an open spot for him. This is why I was at least slightly happy that we didn't sign Tex. In addition to not spending the money, we didn't have to clear the logjam or pay w/ a draft pick. Granted, Dunn is no Teixeira, but at 5 million/year?? I'd consider putting him at SS/C for that offense. (kidding, but you get my point) That said, the price is much cheaper AND Dunn wasn't offered arbitration so I'm pretty sure we won't lose a draft pick either. I think Dunn would do well with our right field and if he could play pepper with the Green Monster (doubt it) he'd be all the better. Although I doubt the Sox will get him, I'd definitely be excited by this opportunity.
  20. I agree. The guy is like instant power and HR. Just add water. Unfortunately the same works with strikeouts, but at 5 million I'd say it's worth scooping up before anyone else hits it. Although I doubt Dunn will be signed in the end for that much, and I doubt that only 1 team will be in on him for 5 million/year.
  21. I didn't see it personally but I read about it. Youk's a TV-star now. I bet he could have done that challenge....
  22. I hate to stick up for a Yankee fan here, but your post just wasn't kosher. Who are you to "translate" what the other dude says anyway. That's not cool bro...that's just not cool.
