And when everyone expects the highest dollar players to sign with the Yankees, I don't think anyone can ever be surprised with a top dollar FA signing in NY.
I'm just waiting to see who I get in the 2nd round of the playoffs. If Neil Rackers doesn't get 7+ then I'll be facing the team w/ Drew Brees. And Brandon Jacobs needs 10 points and then the #6 will upset the #3.
Have you seen Jesse Chavez? Now we have to face Soriano in the Rays bullpen because the Braves didn't want to pay the money. Usually this is a move that the Rays would make. Chavez and Soriano are nowhere close to equal and the Braves f***** themselves as well as the teams in the AL East not named the Rays. Makes me wonder who the Braves would have taken from other teams for Soriano.
Does anyone know who drugged the Braves front office to get them to agree to the Soriano/Chavez swap? Am I the only one confused about how the hell this trade went through? Where's the SEC when you need them?
Plus it's not paying an EXTRA $19 million, it's paying a total of $19 million. It's only paying $6.5 million extra (minus the cost of Max Ramirez), since you'd normally be paying 12.5 million for Lowell and now you're paying 19 million for Beltre AND Ramirez (and that's assuming that Beltre is at 10 mil/year.
And in my opinion, Beltre's defense plus Max Ramirez is not bad for 6.5 million. And I doubt that Beltre will get 10 mil/year which will bring the difference down further.
It depends on what you call "fielding". For example, Lowell at one point, and potentially still has the best fielding percentage EVER for a 3rd baseman. Better than Nettles, Schmidt, and those other HOF guys. That means that Lowell has better hands and is better at not making errors than anyone else with significant time at 3B.
On the other hand, Lowell is so much slower and has horrible range, so he's much worse at getting to balls and overall making outs. So it depends on how you define "fielding".
Also worth noting
Beltre WAR over the last 3 years: 3, 4.1, 2.4
Lowell WAR over the last 3 years: 5.3, 3.2, 1.2
Beltre UZR/150 over the last 3 years: 15.6, -3.4, 15.7
Lowell UZR/150 over the last 3 years: 8, 15.6, -19.7
While I like Beltre, we'd have to think about what to do with Lowell, and how much we're going to pay for Beltre. I believe that he'd be better than Lowell, overall around the same offensively, maybe a little worse but he'd be a lot better defensively, to the point where it's well worth any possible handicap offensively. Our pitchers will really appreciate that. Anyway, Boras was looking for $11/$12 million per year, which I doubt the Red Sox do. If we could get him for 2/$18 with a club option I'd be happy. I also don't want to sign a long term deal with him.
I'm just glad that Uconn finally won a close game. All 5 of their losses were by a COMBINED 15 points, to 3 currently ranked teams (1 other was ranked at the time of the game), and 3 of which were on the road to those teams. Thank god we finally won a close one. Not sure how I feel about the Texas game but that was awfully close.
Who said anything about not respecting him? Why is everyone misinterpreting what I'm saying? I never said I didn't respect him or that he wasn't one of the greatest players ever. I don't know where you two are finding hidden meanings in what I'm saying, but it's not working.
