I have been championing Clay as an Ace. Today will lend further credence to my contention that Clay is no longer a good pitcher with high upside.. He is a legitimate stopper. This is the game that Aces who want to be GREAT, do not lose. I do not like the idea of trading Martinez. He is just starting to get hot and is the 2nd best hitting catcher in the game. I guess it would depend on what we got back in addition...but anything short of Franklin Morales, Ianetta, and more for a hitter like Martinez would be silly... I have noticed that the Sox pitchers.. Dice, Clay, and Lester in particular have really been trying to hold the runners on. Even if it is just holding onto the ball...it helps. This was particularly evident with Clay holding Crawford on the other night. Clay threw over there a bunch of times, held the ball, stepped off the rubber.. Crawford looked like he was getting preturbed.. Hey, you don't like it? Then stop jumping around and stealing every time you get on base. I think the Sox as a staff have made a concerted effort to keep the opposing teams from running at will.. Martinez isn't going anywhere.. He is the type of hitter who can carry a team when he gets hot and is a switch-hitting catcher to boot. Signing him to a 5 year $80 mill contract is another issue all together.

I guess I was wrong about Ortiz..and glad to be. I wasn't alone in my appraisal of Ortiz.

I started a thread 1 month ago stating Buchholz would become an ACE this year. He has more wins since July 19th of last year than ANY PITCHER IN MLB.

Ughh?? Did you see him on the MLB Network? He had them all in stitches! He is hillarious! Jim Rice is fuggin useless in studio.. I call him Captain Obvious.. he doesn't bring anything new or remotely fresh to the post-game discussions.. All Jim Ed does is stutter and string together dusty old cliche's.. He is TERRIBLE! God love Jim Ed..he is one of my all-time favorite players.. but Millar is 10X the studio presence! Millar is a NATURAL. Millar still talks to many of the current Red Sox players and still considers himself a Sox.. he is gonna make you eat your words bro.. And BTW..Millar called Big Papi while he was on his terrible streak... He broke down his swing and showed how he had changed it and how he needed to go back to the high leg and quick hands...he was right on..and soon after Papi started raking. I am not saying Millar is the reason..I thought it was impressive how he broke down the swing..then of course in true Millar fashion he told Papi to tighten up the beard. Jim Rice is totally detached from today's players... Millar knows who these guys are behind the scenes.. I am telling you..this is the best thing they have done since bringing Eck in...maybe better.

I see the Rays as the best team in baseball for the 1st quarter of the season. I also see them playing well over their pythagorean record would indicate with a pretty ordinary 102 OPS+..both the Sox and Yankees offenses are better in that regard. The pitching has been very good but I do not believe Tampa's pitchers will be able to sustain the level of dominance. It is always hard to predict a small sample like a 3 game series but I would be very surprised, shocked even, if the Sox did not win this series. The Rays took 4 games in Fenway(2 of which the Sox should have won)... all luck factors have been exhausted by the Rays.. It is time for the law of averages to start equaling out. I fully expect the Sox to win 2 of the 3 games in Tampa.

This team is playing with some attitude... I like it.. The pitching and defense we heard of all off-season is starting to show along with an offense that has been consistently one of the best in the Majors... I also think Beckett is going to be fine..he has shown some flashes of brilliance.. even against the Yankees.. We get his back all square and he will have a very good year, in the meantime Wakes will do the job. If I am the rest of the A.L... I would be pretty worried seeing as the Sox are 2.5 out of Wild Card and have played with poor-average defense, pitching, and a minor league outfield for most of the year. IMO, the Sox are going to prove a point in this series. I will be shocked if the Sox lose more than one game against Tampa. I like our I like Healthy-Beckett, Lester, and Clay over any of the Rays pitchers.. sorry..none of them have EVER won a big game. I like our starting 5 better as a unit.. though Lackey has shown nothing... I like our Bard/Paps 8th and 9th better than theirs.. 1-5 their lineup is great...6-9...not so much... We can beat this team and their 10K fans.. Let's do this!

I gotta admit.. I was frying the Red Sox for most of the year for the lackluster-horrific 1st month-plus.. However, they showed me some serious stones and heart not quitting down 5 against that Fat-Tub O'shite CC... After what happened the night before and the bickering and the weather..it would have been easy for them to pack it in.. however..That win may be the turning point of a great season. These upcoming games against Philly and TB will be a nice litmus test to see just where we are.. Man I hope Coby and Cameron are ready tonight.. Props to Darnell and the other fill-ins but their defense was giving me an ulcer and you CANNOT give Philly or TB extra outs.

I hope Boone asks Nomar what he was f***ing doing when Jeter dove into the stands...LOLOLOL! That would be the most entertaining part of this hideous game. I would love to see Nomar's blank expression and see if he tried to lie and say anything but.. "I quit on my team and had been pouting around for weeks..f*** them".

I wish the Giants needed a closer... and a starter.. I would love to pillage their system(Posey and Baumgarner to be precise).. Maybe they would give us something for Drew if we paid his entire contract..lol.. he would INSTANTLY become the 2nd best hitter in their pathetic lineup.

Brown is a 5 tooler and he is ripping it up right now.. We have Bard as closer of the future... I think the Phillies would give us Brown even though they failed to part with him in the halladay deal because of how close they are to contending for a bunch of titles... they NEED a reliable, healthy closer more than any team in baseball... Brown is going to be a STUD. Aumont is a project..but dude is 6'7 and throws 94 with heavy sink... he would be a nice cherry to the deal.

OK.. can we start a "Trade Papelbon to the Phillies for Domonic Brown and Phillippe Aumont" yet???
