    I cannot fault Lackey.. he is a pitch-to-contact pitcher. He is throwing strikes...and they are dinking and dunking him to death tonight. Barton had the only real bullet tonight.

    I cannot wait till Gonzalez is out of the game... He is so herky-jerky and his ball has a wicked tail on it.. Worst of all..I don't think he has much of an idea where the ball is going from pitch to pitch.. He has just enough control to stay in the game and the nasty stuff and velocity to make it really tough on the Sox. Lackey doing his best to put this one out of reach.

    uninformed reply..typical from a Yankee fan. At the time the Red Sox were fighting for a pennant. They needed a quality reliever. They got one. Larry Anderson was an elite reliever and the Sox were a World Series contender...one piece away.. These are the deals that are acceptable. In the 700 minor league AB's that precluded the trade(good sample), Bagwell had a grand total of 6 HR's. Hey, who knew he was going to JUICE-UP and become a 40 HR guy? In retrospect...bad deal.. At the time...acceptable. Kelley for Napoli is not acceptable now or EVER.

    I would ask for Brian Fuentes and use him as a lefty specialist. He is totally dominant vs. lefties sporting a .45 WHIP but hasn't been what the Angels had hoped for and the Angels have some good young arms-- as well as Rodney who could move to closer. Fuentes would be the ideal guy to go out and get. Papelbon, Bard, and DelCarmen give us a solid 7, 8, and 9 out there.. Okajima is worthless with a 1.74 WHIP and .314 OPBA. A solid lefty in the pen is really all we need. Over his career and 147.2 IP vs. lefties, Fuentes has held them to a .216 OPBA and 1.15 WHIP while striking out an amazing 185 batters in those 147.2 IP. This is an absolutely perfect fit. The contracts cancel out and there is no way Fuentes will finish the 55 games needed for his $11 million option to kick in for 2011. I am not sure about the particulars should he be traded. There may be some sort of compensation... hmm.. I hope it wouldn't be the Sox having to pony up the $11 mill..no way they do that UNLESS they get a very good prospect in return. This move would give the Sox the best pen in baseball IMO.

    Just got back from Newport..gorgeous day with my little girl..lot's of nice pictures. I come home and the beautiful day is topped off by a Red Sox blowout. They were losing 1-0 when I left. That Portman mojo really did get the bats heated up!

If Lester throws strikes..I think we all know what is going to happen. He has been unhittable and Butler/Guillen better have a ton of bats tarred and ready...the cutter is coming! I hope he K's Dejesus a bunch..that little rat is annoying the hell out of me. It would be nice to see our offense do something this series.     I know a way Pedroia could bust out of his streak today. He could swing at the 1st pitch cock-shot that he takes down the middle at the beginning of nearly every at bat. I know he likes to do this and I appreciate the Boggsian approach..but dude is getting in way too many 0-2, and 1-2 counts.. That is obviously not very conducive to a high OBP or BA. If he switches it up for a bit pitchers will adjust and he can go back to what he likes...but I think he could bust out against Greinke today using a hack-first approach. Greinke is a pitcher who you REALLY don't want to be behind..his arsenal is deadly.
