  1. I agree with that to an extent. I think that if the Sox can find a middle ground on a deal for AGon, then Buch/Ells are likely gone depending on who Hoyer is in love with. That said, the likelihood of that deal going down is fairly slim at this point. Theo made an interesting comment in the presser today about it being easier to go out and get a bat mid-season as opposed to trading for a top tier starting pitcher at the same point. That kind of indicates to me that the Sox are comfortable for the time being with their lineup and are willing to go to war with these guys until it's obvious things aren't working. You never know... the Tigers could end up playing poorly again early on and decide the time is right to move Cabrera. Having plenty of chips to work with then would be nice.
  2. Gordon Edes is a twat... Not saying he's wrong here, but a twat nonetheless.
  3. Works for me... mods?
  4. Just passing it along... for the record I don't put much stock in this one, in spite of my blatant hope that the Sox get a deal done this off-season
  5. Not sure if this has been posted or not yet, but thought it was interesting to say the least... I can only hope this rumor is legit. http://twitter.com/jorgearangure/status/6736480095 http://www.nesn.com/2009/12/source-adrian-gonzalez-will-be-dealt-to-red-sox-within-next-10-days.html
  6. I guess I should have said all signs indicate that Westmoreland will be awesome... sorry to have not put that disclaimer in there...
  7. Tis true... sigh Can't decide who I'd be more upset over losing... Kelly or Westmoreland. Both are going to be studs sooner or later.
  8. It's not BS. Bay can field decently out in left at Fenway but anytime a runner is moving on contact, he scores because Bay can't do s*** with the ball. And that's with the short field... put him out in the open at another stadium and he sucks even more. And yes, 5 years is a lot different then 4. Why else would that be the sticking point for Bay and his agent?
  9. Great post dipre... that graph really tells the tale. Theo needs to get on the phone now and make that deal happen. To hell with having Buch as a 5th starter... they're a dime a dozen anyway and we can always call up Bowden if need be. Toss in Reddick, Anderson, and Doubront and call it a day.
  10. I think what a lot of people are missing in this signing is the amount of years committed to Cameron (2) vs. what Bay wanted (5). Signing Cameron may hurt our offense this season and possibly next, IF we don't sign/trade anyone else to help in that regard, but at the same time only having him around for two seasons gives the Sox time to finish the development of Westmoreland and not block his path to the big leagues in the process.
  11. Here's a great article comparing Bay and Cameron at FanGraphs... http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/bay-vs-cameron That says it all for me... 29.6 is ridiculous and at $7-8 million a season, he's a steal
  12. Yep. Two years, $15.5 million http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hLNe6JuKnC0b4bNuPR9uSgaE65rAD9CJEF2O2
  13. Meh... I think it's much more likely that the Yanks will sign Damon and go to work with relatively the same lineup (plus Granderson) that won them a championship. If it ain't broke, don't fix it... St. Louis is going to go balls out to keep Holliday... the fans out there will riot if they don't do something to make that team better this off-season
  14. The second part of your post is how I see it breaking down. Cameron is likely to play center most of the time with Ells in left. Jacoby didn't play the best defense in CF last year anyway, so a move into the tiny LF at Fenway would only help.
  15. I really like this move if it indeed goes down. As many others have said, Cameron's defense is a tremendous asset to have. Having him play a majority of games in Fenway won't hurt either as his power is to left field and he hits plenty of line drives that will bang off the Monster for singles or doubles. A Hermida/Cameron platoon is a much cheaper and simpler solution than dumping a ton of cash on Bay or Holliday, who both have defensive issues. Now it's time to package together a great offer for AGon and let the fun begin.
  16. ESPN reporting it as well... http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/mlb/news/story?id=4741437
  17. Deal is done according to Heyman @ SI... 5 years, $85 mil http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/12/14/heyman.lackey.redsox/index.html
  18. Just saw that myself... 5 years $85 mil is longer and more expensive than I would prefer but that's what it costs to get a legitimate starter these days. Better to spend the money we know they have then dump our farm to get Halladay IMO.
  19. That would be par for the course as of late...
