  1. Great idea.... A lot of players would be up for it, as they could get a break mid season and the guys that do play wouldn't have as much risk for injury either. Win-win all around if you ask me.... which means it will never happen
  2. Fair enough man. We can agree to disagree. In any case, it's irrelevant as far as the Sox are concerned. I doubt they'll be signing any of the above.
  3. I never said he'd be happy about it or even take it for that matter. I just said that there will be a lot of teams that would love to have him in that capacity, and if the few teams that have the ability to give him starter cash and playing time go in a different direction, he could be left with a tough decision. That is all.
  4. Not at all. Look, I'm not saying it's impossible that he'll get a starting job. He very well might get just that if the Cubs, Angels, or Rays are really serious about signing him. But there are a ton of guys out there right now that will end up platooning in the outfield and while I think Abreu is the best on the market, I think he's also finding out that teams are not willing to dump a big contract on him right now. All of that is subject to change at a moment's notice though, if a team gets it in their head that he's the difference maker for their team and are willing to pay for his services. For the record, I do understand the off-season. I just see things differently then you do. That's the beauty of a message board last I checked. We all have different opinions and get to argue about them without ever having to worry about things becoming personal.
  5. Spoken like a true Yankees fan. Seriously, look at the amount of talented corner outfielders on the market right now. Unless he signs with a weak team, he won't get a starting job.
  6. I suspect that we'll see Lars Anderson coming up sooner rather than later if the Sox stand pat with the lineup they have right now. He'd give us an impact bat off the bench plus a 1st base guy that will let us spell Mikey Lowell from time to time, which is something he'll need coming off of a major surgery.
  7. I wouldn't be opposed to signing Smoltz to an incentive laden contract for a season. He would give us a quality 5th starter/spot bullpen relief and would probably enjoy having a legit shot at pitching deep into the postseason once again. As for Willis, if we could somehow convince the Tiggers to take on Lugo's contract, I would be happy to make that deal. We free up the starter spot for Lowrie, get rid of a terrible player, and gain a pitcher with a lot of upside if he can successfully return from his injuries/slump. I also wouldn't mind seeing us bring in Baldelli, Abreu, or another solid bat to play the OF, as we all know Drew is going to get hurt sooner or later.
