  1. Sox sure seem to love those $13 million AAVs..
  2. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/12/red-sox-to-sign-ryan-dempster.html Dempster deal is done... 2 years, $26.5 million
  3. Hamilton may fall off the cliff in the latter stages of the deal, but for the first part, the top of their lineup is going to be unreal with Trout, Pujols, and Hamilton. That's a pitcher's nightmare
  4. Yep. Wonder how much it would take to pry away Trumbo or to a lesser extent Morales? Halos have to trade one of them now you would think.
  5. For five years, they can have him. Would have been happy to have him for 4 but not for 5.
  6. My sentiments exactly.
  7. Rays get Myers, Odorizzi, Montgomery, and Leonard back for Shields and Davis Friedman strikes again.
  8. The Rangers have been very open to moving Olt this offseason from what I've read, if he helps them land a big fish like Upton.
  9. Trading Young gives them flexibility lineup wise in the infield. They could move Kinsler to first base and play Profar at second with Andrus at short and Beltre at third.
  10. I'd be fine with that. Can't imagine it would cost a ton in terms of talent to get a Santana deal done.
  11. Found this bit of info over at MLB Trade Rumors earlier... made me chuckle http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/12/latest-on-Guardians-rangers-d-backs-trade-talks.html "The Rangers, D'Backs, and Rays are still at the Winter Meetings, working on an Upton blockbuster according to Rosenthal. A friend of Rays top exec Andrew Friedman says that while Friedman has never done a three-way trade, he's determined to get one done." Seems that a threesome is a lifelong ambition for Friedman...
  12. Pretty sure the Sox front office has access to just as much information on players they're interested in, if not a hell of a lot more than we do as fans. If we've noticed a problematic statistical trend, you can bet Bill James and Co. have been on it for months in advance.
  13. Have to think the Royals would need to give up more than just Myers to land Shields.
  14. Seems Benny has something up his sleeve. Not sure what or how big it will be, but it could be interesting. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2012/12/red_sox_gm_ben.html NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said he's made progress "on one thing" which hasn't been reported in the media and his choice for the Pawtucket manager, but was not willing to announce it as he left the winter meetings this morning. "We spent last night working on a couple of of things but nothing we're ready to announce," Cherington said. "We made progress on one thing but its not quite teed up yet." Asked whether it was a free-agent or trade and Cherington said, "Can't say but sometime soon I can say."
  15. +1 on that. From everything I've seen, that will be the case.
  16. 80/4 years isn't going to get it done IMO. The Sox have to go further than that if they want him at 4 years. 95/4 would be more likely. 110/5 would go a long way to making a deal happen as the Rangers don't seem to want to go beyond 4 years.
  17. There's a difference between it being an excuse and it being an explanation. I lean towardsit being the latter. If he had pussed out and chose to sit instead of playing through it, I'd see it differently.
  18. From what I've heard, Victorino played most of last season with a hand injury that impacted his hitting quite a bit. Hence the down year. He's always been a gamer so it doesn't surprise me that he decided to play through the injury rather than go on the DL. Also heard Mattingly said he's the kind of player that thrives on the kind of atmosphere that Boston or New York or Philly provides. LA was too relaxed for him in a way. He needs the pressure to perform. Given that, I think that he'll turn out to be a solid if not spectacular addition sooner rather than later.
  19. Signing Swisher would give the Yanks our 2nd round pick as they offered him a qualifying contract. Considering how high we're selecting this year, I'd rather not go down that road.
  20. Duplicate report... 3 years seems to the magic number this year for the Sox. Victorino has declined as of late but he's still better than most options out there and at the very least he'll give us another base stealing threat alongside Ells
  21. We could have but free agency is a two way street. If the deals are equal or even slightly tilted in the Red Sox favor money wise, which team would you prefer? The young, up and coming Nats that play in a much easier NL East or the Red Sox? Pretty easy decision really, especially when it's on a 1 year deal that gives Haren a shot to re-establish his value and then go back into free agency next year.
  22. I would be surprised if there wasn't some sort of control mechanism put into his contract, perhaps in the form of a morals clause so to speak, that would let the Sox (or whoever signs him) off the hook if he goes off the deep end again. Not sure if they can do that or not, but it would be logical. Provided he stays clean, Hamilton would have nothing to worry about and would make a s*** ton of money over a short period of time.
  23. I'd be fine with signing Hamilton, provided we splurge on the money and not the years in the deal. A three year deal at a higher per would be fine by me. He would help a ton on offense and his defense isn't all that bad either. Batting him next to Ortiz would be awesome.
  24. 2 years, $26 million... reasonable but I can understand why he'd rather play in Detroit. He's the kind of piece that could push a team towards WS champ, not a stopgap solution until the youngsters come up.
