I can't see any reason why the Sox wouldn't call up Bogaerts in the very near future. For f***'s sake they've got two nobodies manning the hot corner right now. How can Bogaerts be any worse? He's our SS of the future for sure, but right now he needs to be here to add his bat into the mix.
The difference between the prospects it would have took to get Lee and what we sent to get Peavy is like night and day too. Not to mention the amount of money involved in Lee's contract, vs. what we've committed to Peavy for rest of this year and next.
I don't think he needs to outperform Buch, Lester, or Lackey. He's not needed to be an ace. He's a solid #3 that goes after hitters and is a leader in the clubhouse. You put him in with our current top three and then have Doubront/Dempster as a #5, and we're good to go for the playoffs.
He also K'd 10.9 per 9 in 2012, so there's that. He's got a live arm but has control issues. Throw in for now, but could be more, if he gets some control. Not saying he will, but I like it. I've seen worse throw ins than him...
Can't just look at this year... last season he was pretty decent. Right now, he's just a throw in, but he obviously has talent.

Cafardo says it looks like Tigers are sending Brayan Villarreal back to Boston. Not bad. 26 yo RH BP arm. Horrid this year but was solid last year. 54.2 IP, 66/28 K/BB ratio. Something decent at least, if he can regain his form.
Per Sean McAdam, we're getting a prospect back in return with Peavy. Doubt it will be much, but can't complain to get an extra arm (or bat) to fill out the farm.
You're forgetting the ChiSox are getting Garcia from the Tigers. A 20 HR, 80 RBI guy in the outfield that's been rated as one of the Tigers best prospects for a bit now. Combine that with a mid level prospect from the Sox, and maybe they send a low level guy back to Detroit, and it's a pretty decent deal all around.
They can absolutely afford his weak bat in that lineup. His defense will be a MASSIVE improvement over Peralta. Sucks he's going to a WS contender but it is what it is.
Hearing Iggy is going to Detroit. Tigers pulled top prospect Avasail Garcia tonight as well. Maybe he's headed to Chicago? Tigers need backup for when Peralta gets nailed for PEDs
Yes. I highly doubt JBJ would be involved in anything less than a deal for Lee. He's too valuable.
Iggy on the other hand is expendable, especially if we bring up Bogaerts. Love his defense at short (not really so much at third) and his bat is just meh... the early season pop has predictably disappeared. Okay if he goes to get something good back in return.
