  1. And yet they are 12-16 with the #1 fWAR pitching staff?
  2. Not hard to do. Just sit back and watch.
  3. They have 8 players on pace for 30+ HR's.
  4. The same plan should have been: re-sign Schwarber, keep Renfroe, replace the starting pitchers that left and add to the pen. They went over the cap and it was the last hurrah for the "2018" group. Might as well run it back one more time?
  5. They said in the game update that his command has been poor. I don't think that's a reason to take him out of the top 10. Mata is still ranked 5th and his command wasn't great last season.
  6. They say over and over DON'T SCOUT THE BOXSCORES. The results matter, but not as much as we think they do. The reports from the field are far more important. They physically see the players in person, watch them on MiLB.tv or talk to scouts (both from the Sox and other orgs).
  7. I think Drohan COULD pass Perales this season. His stuff has ticked up and he's having great results at AA which is considered a fairly high developmental level. I don't see another HUGE jump for Drohan like we saw previously, but minor bumps here and there. The big jump was due to the added velo and new pitch mix which has played up and showed they were right in their evaluations. Drohan is most likely in AA into June, maybe later July if they are managing the WOO rotation.
  8. Yeah, I thought it was a good signing, but didn't think it'd work out as well as it had. If Bassitt and Manoah can turn it around, that team will be really tough to beat.
  9. 2021 was the worst thing that happened to Chaim's tenure here. He believed he could get success with doing as little as possible. Everything was gonna be awesome.
  10. I think he had an amount in his head and the Sox got there. The risk of him getting seriously injured this year and affecting that money was too great. He gets 313, but leaves 40 on the table? It's still generational changing money. If he gets a serious back injury, maybe the contract is cut in half? He wasn't exactly the picture of health last season.
  11. A 1/10M guy is a middle of the rotation guy. Sale coming off his injuries is a 2 AT BEST! This rotation is stacked with 2023 middle rotation ceiling guys. In 2024, maybe Whitlock and Bello are better than that, but not this year.
  12. I think most everyone does. By the time aces become FA's, they are older and you have to compete with a lot more teams that increase the contract amount. Better to trade and try to get a below market deal. develop - Sandy Alcantara: 5/56M! trade - Pablo Lopez: 4/73.5M? sign - Gerrit Cole: 9/324M I see a stark difference there.
  13. Just delete Casas and put Alcantara 20th then.
  14. Will graduate from prospect status in our next rankings update (early May)
  15. I think he graduates in Mid-May, are the next rankings in June? I meant to qualify Casas with "pending graduation status."
  16. IDK, they really "value" the utility of having options and on a player. That's why guys like Ort stick around. Brasier stuck around because he had arb years and they liked his bb rate. He no longer has future years of control or any remaining options. He's a guy on a $2.5M-ish contract that probably should have just been nontendered this offseason as most of us correctly said prior to being tendered. They probably give him another month or so to figure it out or wait for the wheels to REALLY fall off.
  17. If they didn't do the Devers extension, what would the conversation be surrounding the team right now? What would the atmosphere be like?
  18. Yes, you need the guy at the top. If Sale was SALE, we'd be having a different conversation probably. It's why they overpaid for Price. It's why they unloaded in the trade for Sale. I don't believe you can wait for that guy to show up via FA.
  19. You don't want the Opening Day starter to league average or less than. He's only had 1 start go longer than 5.0 innings.
  20. Since 4/20 (10 games with new approach) 410 AVG 455 OBP 718 SLG 216 wRC+ 3 HR 7 R 10 RBI 9% BB 14% K For the season: Top 3% k rate
  21. Walter is closer to filling in than Mata or Murphy even though he doesn't show it. I think the Sox have confidence that he could come up and fill in if needed. I don't think Murphy will ever be a consistent MLB starter. Mata pitched will last time out, but he's really not consistent from start to start and inning to inning right now. I don't think the Sox could bring him up unless he can be very good for a few months straight. More likely, they just put Crawford out there and hope his recent success continues.
  22. If Kluber just pitched like 2022 Kluber, this season would look much better. Him losing 2 mph in velo and getting pounded has had a bigger impact on the staff than just his starts. It puts additional stress on the bullpen. He was signed to be a leader, but needs to spend time working on himself instead.
  23. The next move to be made will be to waive Bernardino when Joely returns. Then they'll option Crawford to make room for Paxton. Brasier survives.
  24. The wallet didn't open. It's just a shell game. They are UNDER the CBT. They signed Devers to an extension after being embarrassed at the winter meetings when Xander signed with the Padres, Chaim was left to look shell shocked at the airport and Henry was berated in public. I don't think they realistically met the expectations of "opening their wallets" and acting as a large market franchise this offseason.
