    Ottavino: 69 Appearances, 62 Innings Whitlock: 46 Appearances, 73 Innings While he may have pitched MORE innings, I think the reduced appearances and additional days of rest was an easier workload especially in the early part of the year when he only appeared in 5 games in April and 6 in May. He had the repertoire to pitch multi-innings and that's how he was used.

    Valdez is horrible at 2B, so at least Hamilton has a potential home there at some point? Maybe? IDK. They don't seem inclined to want to bring him up.

    Yeah, dude. He wasn't super healthy in the postseason and had finished the season on the IL. He pitched well in the postseason, but was nursing an injury (pectoral) if you remember and his k rate was way down. Got really lucky with the BABIP (095). Early in the year, they went out of their way to put several days (3-5) in between his appearances. He didn't pitch in back to back days until September and only did so once. Went on the IL a week later.

    Well, he wouldn't make any overthrows to 1B. They'd just bounce a few times. Field: Poor footwork and range and does not look comfortable at shortstop. Has a tendency to rush plays and has trouble fielding the ball on the run. At second base, is a bit robotic and only shows average hands. Footwork is sloppy there as well and it is unclear if he can stick there long-term. Speed and athleticism might be best suited for center field, where he has played a couple times in 2022. Potential below-average defender.

    I'm not sold that switching him to a reliever will fix that. He wasn't the picture of health at the end of 2021 and that was with a season of babying him between appearances.

    You're projecting off a SSS. He's a good player, but he's not a 20M player. If that's what he wants, the Sox should absolutely trade him. If he keeps this up over the next 2 seasons, then it's a different conversation. You don't project an increase in production and pay the player MORE for it.

    Ignoring Nimmo's 2022: 2018 - 4.8 fWAR 2021 - 3.4 fWAR Verdugo has never had more than 1.9 fWAR in a season with the Sox.

    4.6M AAV is nothing. That's 2 Ryan Brasiers. The club options of 8 and 10 are probably a good deal too since they gave 16M Jansen and 6M to Martin.

    I think Bloom has a number of pitchers on the 40 man he wants to keep and a number of hitters he wants to keep. Not sure he'd DFA a pitcher for a hitter.

    Hard times? They've had 9 division titles and finished 2nd 8 times. Seems like a pretty good 20 years?

    With the cost of relievers these days, if it goes in that direction, it's not the end of the world.

    He can't be a 3 k/9 guy. He's got to be back around 1.5, which is close to what he was last year. He was effective last year with meager velo and walking guys is never a good thing.
