    STL was a good team with a bad record. Because these Sox are a WC "competitive" team, they will have lots of series where they look a little outmatched. They aren't the buzzsaw they once were.

    I'm not going to fret over Devers' numbers when he currently sports a 252 BABIP. Hey, wasn't banning the shift supposed to fix that? He still has his best UZR/150 and a positive OAA. xWOBA 366 - 84th percentile AvEV - 94th percentile Hard Hit % - 93rd percentile xSLG - 93rd percentile I'd like him to increase that BB rate a little, but I think he'll be fine over the long haul.

    Yup, he's going to need to learn to pitch to more advanced hitters. This may be the impact of getting rid of short season ball. Low A is now the talent level of short season. High A is now the talent level of Low A. AA is closer to High A than what it used to be. AAA is a much bigger jump than ever.

    It's to keep him as a depth option in case of injury to Whitlock/Paxton/Sale. I don't think he has any value in a trade. It's either bullpen, phantom IL or DFA.

    I'd rather acquire him early and extend than compete for him in FA. IF THAT'S THE GUY THEY REALLY WANT.

    The Red Sox are moving struggling veteran Corey Kluber from the starting rotation to the bullpen, manager Alex Cora told hosts Andy Gresh and Christian Fauria in a radio appearance on WEEI this afternoon (Twitter link). They’ll move back to a five-man rotation consisting of Chris Sale, James Paxton, Garrett Whitlock, Tanner Houck and Brayan Bello for the time being.

    You just have to believe that the Sox know which prospects to give up and which ones to hold on to.

    He asked for the Sox' original offer. The Sox said no.

    Prior to this season, he was great at limiting hard contact and had a low bb rate. May not have a high k rate, but that's the reason his xFIP is typically higher than his ERA. He's a good pitcher. I would feel more comfortable signing him to a deal than RODON. Urias' velo is down a little this year which is *interesting*. Ohtani's TJS is also in my notes. Ohtani will most likely be overpaid. Both are likely to be injured. Urias is probably a little more budget friendly, but we'll see.

    This is only true if every rotation is equally distributed in those 5 segments of the 150 pitchers. We know that isn't the case.

    Why aim for a "#5" when it could be a guy with upside like Whitlock or Houck instead?

    Buying is definitely the WORST way to go. It should be the last resort.

    I think it's clear that the pipeline isn't there. Bloom still isn't really drafting rotation guys either. The plan is to be determined I guess?

    Need to pay a premium for Urias' cool glasses. He's probably a better bet than Ohtani though for what you are paying.

    Yes, if they liked him enough to give him the offer in the first place, they probably should have sucked it up for 2023 and had Kluber AND Eovaldi in the rotation. Wow you went over? Imagine going over accidentally and getting a worse QO pick or something silly like that!

    Nick Pivetta 7/1/22-5/24/23: ERA 6.08 xFIP 4.55 K% 9.12 BB% 4.24 GSv2 41 QS 3 GS 25 He's been a little unlucky, but doesn't have a high enough ceiling to keep around for a rebound. Next!

    His EV on 4/4 was 97 mph! That 091 BABIP seems pretty damn lucky to me. He was a 4.50 ERA guy from 21-22. Now he's pitching worse. It's not worth it to keep him around.
