  1. His "dumpster diving" contract was 1/10. In the inflated 2022/23 offseason, that's the same contract Kluber got.
  2. Bloom has had a few swing and misses since coming here. Richards comes to mind.
  3. If he pitched like last year right now, we'd get no complaints here about him. Kluber pitched more innings, had a better k%, better bb%, better EV than Wacha last year. Signs pointed to him being better than Wacha in 2023. He just is no longer able to control the zone.
  4. Not by the one true stat: fWAR.
  5. Reporting in from JUST south south west of Boston!
  6. Coffey probably gets into the top 60 in the next rankings. I don't see any reason to start a hype train for him though.
  7. Walter was brought in after an opener. That clearly didn't do the trick. I don't know if it was the injury that stopped his development or if his stuff just wasn't good enough to make it in AAA. I believe his velo is down this year. Frustrating for sure.
  8. @tylermilliken_ Jarren Duran is 100th percentile in Outfield Jump this season. He has sucked on defense for years. Where has this guy been? Crazy world.
  9. I'll just TROLL a little and follow up with what a different article said about the quote from Cora: Cora was asked if it’s a matter of pain tolerance. “I believe so,” Cora replied. “What feels right. He’s so explosive. Right now, he is explosive but not at the level he used to (be). Maybe that’s where it’s kind of like holding him back. But he was here. MRIs and all that stuff. Structure great. (He’s) progressing well. Now it’s kind of like, just keep pushing, pushing, pushing and see where it takes.”
  10. He's in Fort Myers. The last update was about 10 days ago. When the Red Sox acquired Adalberto Mondesi from Kansas City this past offseason, they understood he might not be ready for Opening Day. The electric shortstop was just about a year removed from suffering a torn ACL in his left knee, but the hope was before long his speed and explosiveness could become a game-breaking asset. Recovering that explosiveness, however, has proven a much slower process than expected. Though Mondesi has not experienced any setbacks and his surgically repaired knee is still structurally sound, he is not close to a return and isn’t expected to begin a rehab assignment in the near future. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that while Mondesi is making progress, it has often come with fits and starts. “There are going to be good days and bad days, we’ve got to make sure when the bad days happen it’s ‘hey you’re fine structurally, you’re good,’ ” Cora said. “It’s just part of the process so be patient and we’ll keep moving on.” Acquired from Kansas City in exchange for left-hander Josh Taylor this past offseason, the Red Sox made a bet that Mondesi could give the club the type of dynamic athleticism its rarely had in recent years. The problem has always been durability. Throughout his career Mondesi has frequently battled injury and has only topped 100 games in a season once in 2019. The following year he also played 59 of 60 games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, but the two years since have been rife with setbacks, the most significant being the season-ending knee injury he suffered April 28 last year while breaking for second on a stolen base attempt. Given that history and the level of stress his style of play puts on his body, coming back from the torn ACL has been particularly challenging. “Right now he is explosive but not at the level he’s used to. Maybe that’s what’s holding him back,” Cora said. “He was here, MRIs and all that stuff, structure is great, progressing well. Now just keep pushing, pushing, pushing and we’ll see where it takes us.” Mondesi is technically eligible to come off the 60-day injured list on May 29, but at the rate things are going it’s unlikely he’ll be activated anytime soon.
  11. You should have quit when you had the chance, moon. Now we are all stuck with you fighting with Old Red until one of you strokes out.
  12. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised they actually made these moves. This was a team who held onto Ort and Brasier for reason unknown to man or beast.
  13. Adalberto Mondesi. He has the body of Xander according to Alex Cora, but it is damned to the IL because of an ancient curse.
  14. Moon, this is a wonderful post. Your current post total is 69,069. It's great. Just retire and frame the account. It's perfect the way it is.
  15. NO. Moon: "So, maybe pitchers have been throwing pitches closer to the zone than they did, last year, and that's why he's swung at more?" INCORRECT STATEMENT Dipre: "That's not it. Dude likes to swing and swing hard. They want him to swing hard at his pitch." CORRECT STATEMENT Moon: "You are missing what the talk was about." WRONG
  16. No, he's sucked since 7/1/22. 6.08 ERA, 2 QS in 25 GS. 4/01/21-6/30/22: 4.04 ERA, 4.19 xFIP, 18 QS in 46 GS. He was good for this time period!
  17. The Mets are a .500 team.
  18. Ben had the ring and young talent ready to compete at the end of his tenure. Bloom has no ring and much less young talent at the potential end of his tenure. I've compared the two in the past. They both made wildly ridiculous personnel decisions. Neither have much of a personality to lean on (don't go to the Tik Tok bourbon guys to see what they say about the Whistle Pig bourbon that Bloom was flaunting in the Globe piece). Ben had more success, partly due to Theo. Bloom could be replaced by an internal promotion and the machine would march on. Henry's bottom line may be better off for it too.
  19. https://twitter.com/Hunter_Noll/status/1661774607857201157 On the 10th pitch of the AB, your favorite prospect’s favorite prospect goes deep for a two-run shot. The second home run of the year for the Boston Red Sox prospect.
  20. No, moon. Dipre is right. I don't know what you're missing about this conversation. He hasn't swung more than last year. He has the same pitch selection. It's not good! He's impatient! When he takes a pitch, it's usually by design and not because he sees a pitch he doesn't like. He'll go up there and say "well I need to take a pitch so I'll take a pitch now." He needs to learn what pitches are the right ones to swing at. We've been talking about this same exact thing for the past year.
  21. We really don't know what Henry's expectations are for this team. That's all that matters at the end of the day. If he's happy with the Sox being 85ish wins, then Bloom keeps his job. There's just so much behinds the scenes stuff that it's hard to forecast the "palace intrigue" nonsense with FO job security.
  22. I don't remember ANYONE on here saying they'd win the division. At best, people said they'd compete for a Wild Card and half of the forum laughed at them saying they'd be WORSE than '22. Not one person on this forum voted for the Sox to win more than 90 games in the 2023 poll. How the hell would that win the AL East? You're just flat out making this s*** up right now.
  23. Who said this? I think some people said they'd get a WC birth...
  24. Billy Beane is as big of a crook as owner John Fisher.
  25. Better than what they were last year, but yes they are mediocre.
