  1. His DRS and OAA suck. I was simply commenting on his arm strength which is firmly middle middle.
  2. He's still carrying a 33% k rate. That's the limitation. That jumps to 40 when he gets the call.
  3. Nola will be 31 next year and his velo has ticked down a little year. Also, he's only averaged 131 innings per year from 2020-2023! Yamamoto is interesting due to his age, but is on the smaller side. He's supposedly better than Senga and you'd be getting him for his prime he's before he hits 30. I'd lean towards him. I also don't see DD letting Nola leave.
  4. They play MORE OFTEN than starting pitchers and sometimes in high leverage situation, they just appear in less innings for the most part. Again, WAR just doesn't work well for judging relievers vs other players. When comparing vs other relievers? Fine.
  5. https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2023/05/red-sox-sidearm-prospect-leads-league-in-ks-i-had-something-to-prove.html Feature on Isaac Coffey.
  6. deGrom would be leading our staff in fWAR!
  7. You sure about that? https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/arm-strength
  8. Yeah WAR metrics for relievers are really weak as is.
  9. @IanCundall Something to watch, Red Sox OF Miguel Bleis left the Salem game tonight after hurting what looked like his left hand/wrist on a groundout to shortstop in the 8th. He didn't get out of the box after making contact and was immediately holding the area near his left thumb.
  10. Paxton had 2 good starts and 1 bad. Needs to see more of him if he can stay healthy. Hard to really count on him for anything though.
  11. This is his career leading up to FA: fWAR 1.1 partial year 2.7 4.0 2.3 4.5 5.9 5.6 Every season his xFIP was under 4. His lowest inning total was 170 in 2009. He averaged 202.2 innings from 10-14. While he got even better in WSH, he was a really great pitcher in DET and seemed like a very good bet to anchor a staff around for the length of his next contract.
  12. Last year, 4 games back of the WC meant they were still in it and they couldn't trade anyone?!??!?
  13. Whitlock going 5 seems fine since he's coming off of injury and still doesn't have a long track record of starting.
  14. I don't think we've seen one the past 2 seasons. I have no idea what 2014 Max gets in 2023. Ohtani is set to get 600M, but he's a little unique.
  15. Per @SOMPatriots, they are starting Clayton Beeter (#17th ranked NYY prospect).
  16. Somerset is having TBD start today. He's a pretty big name and has been around for a while. Should be a really big test!
  17. Signing Max back in 2014 would have made lots of sense. The FA's in 2022? None of them seemed like sure bets to me.
  18. Chang was never in front of Kiké and neither was Mondesi. Kiké is the backup to Story, but that's about it.
  19. Difference being that Kiké had played 600 innings at SS prior to 2023. He's never been this bad there before.
  20. He's got Derek Jeter at SS range. Statuesque.
  21. Lies. Did you not see the Andrew Benintendi play he made last night?
  22. Better than 2022...
  23. You can't always wait a year. You need to grab the FA you want when they guy is available even if it's a year or two early.
  24. I think he needs to be given a little longer leash.
