  1. Difference for me is that Verdugo was healthy and should have been able to reach 3 fWAR due to no fault of his own. Duvall got hurt and won't get to 3 fWAR.
  2. My prediction for this offseason is that the Boston Red Sox will be INTERESTED in Yamamoto, but will not sign him. With Ohtani injured and Urias being a sack of s***, the list of TOTR starters is getting shorter. Sox will get outbid for sure. I'm not sure they even end up with Blake Snell. My guess is the best they do is Jordan Montgomery and Seth Lugo, two competent guys that won't really wow anybody but are an improvement on the trainwreck of 2023.
  3. If the Sox aren't going to be in the playoffs, may as well get a higher draft pick?
  4. Verdugo in 2020 had 1.9 fWAR in only 53 games... Kiké had 4 fWAR in 2021.
  5. Big Bastards of Boston podcast fan ^
  6. He is. Can't build a bullpen though.
  7. 2 is incorrect 4 is underselling the drafting 8 who? like who gives a s*** about a podcast?
  8. @alexspeier As @ianmbrowne reported, Marcelo Mayer has been sent from Portland to Fort Myers and won't play again this year while continuing to rehab his left shoulder (inflammation that he feels when swinging). He finishes 2023 having hit 236/.306/.433 w/13 HR and 34 XBH in 78 Gs though those numbers were dragged down by a few rough weeks at the end while he was dealing with the shoulder issue. He'll take part in some instructional league activities starting next week. An AZ Fall League assignment would be a consideration if he gets to 100% health. But priority with this decision was a healthy, full, normal offseason.
  9. On December 2 in each contract year, the Commissioner's Office notifies every team that exceeded the tax threshold that they must pay their tax by January 21 of the following calendar year. Most likely finalized at the end of November, but the point still stands. It's finalized after the World Series, but prior to the Winter Meetings.
  10. I believe bonus payments DO get added to the CBT.
  11. Don't ask stupid f***ing questions then.
  12. Maybe I'm wrong, but we'll see. It probably depends on the timing of the calculation of the CBT at the end of the year and when JT can buy out.
  13. You think it'll retroactively go towards 2023 even through the 2023 CBT has already been calculated?
  14. It's a 2 year deal. JT can "buy out" the second year of the deal by not taking 6.7M from the SOX, but still getting the other 6.7. Yes, the wording isn't great.
  15. 10.85M (CBT) - 8.3M (salary) = 2.55M prorated buyout 2023 6.7M (buyout) - 2.55 (proration) = 4.15 CBT if JT buys out. If he opts in: 10.85M CBT hit ((8.3+13.4)/2).
  16. Until they win again and some people get their hopes up for some reason. It's over! There's no Morgan Magic. There's no Rocktober.
  17. The lux tax for next season would be 4.15M as he has already assumed a portion of the buy out during 2023 towards the CBT.
  18. It's an opt out. He opts out and gets paid 6.7M. That's the contract. That's why.
  19. It's a one game swing in the standings. Sox either go up by one or down by one.
  20. I would say that the 217 BABIP is awfully low and the 4.91 BB/9 is still a little too high. He has had some good results, but we'll have to see how he pitches next year. His numbers in the first half in Greenville weren't all that great. The talent is there, but he has to put it all together.
  21. ERA, really?
  22. @redsoxpayroll In the offseason, Justin Turner signed a 1yr/$8.3MM contract for 2023 plus a $13.4MM player option for 2024. The option comes with a $6.7MM buyout. This means that once the option comes due in early November after the World Series, he'll have what seems to be an easy decision to make. If he declines the option and makes $6.7MM immediately, all he needs to do is find a 1yr/$6.7MM deal in free agency to beat the total option value for 2024. With 1.8 WAR and 123 wRC+, that would be a no-brainer for any team.
  23. Ok, how was it "an" outlier if he performed even better two seasons prior?
