  1. I'd have him top 30 somewhere.
  2. I think he's a solid mid-rotation guy. Sox don't have a great development process for the rotation, so they'll need to buy a few in the short term if they aren't going to trade for any (I know one poster that will disagree). Someway, somehow, they need 2 rotation guys that can give them good INNINGS.
  3. I don't agree. Per reports, he held onto JD in 2022 AND WENT OVER THE CBT LIKE AN IDIOT because he thought the return wasn't high enough. I think he has a value assigned to every player and he moves on if the trade or FA signing isn't exactly lining up. Sometimes you have to take a hit for the betterment of the ballclub. He should have dealt JD and other players no matter what to get under the CBT last year.
  4. I understand this sentence, but did have a serious concussion from a sledding accident back in high school where I lost half of a day. The "meat in the oven" may be an analogy that is not common to us, but is common to iortiz. I get what he's trying to say though.
  5. At that point, couldn't you just let the organization run itself. Bloom isn't really drafting or signing the IFA guys on his own. Maybe he has a say in the 1st or 2nd round, but beyond that it's scouting and guesswork. Couldn't BOH have done this for 5 years if they were going to punt? Did they just need a sacrificial lamb for a few years while they sucked before they promoted CIA plant BOH to CBO?
  6. I hopeful for the guys that are in AA right now too. I think this team should be good going forward, but it needs to be managed better. They need someone that can figure out how to build a rotation and Bloom hasn't been able to do that yet.
  7. The plan was "hey, I'm going to load up in the pen with some bulk guys and that should take care of the 4-5 innings guys in the rotation." Didn't work out. Sale - injury risk Paxton - injury risk, lack of use Whitlock - injury risk Kluber - older, previous injury, reduced velo Houck/Crawford - 4 inning guys Pivetta - 5th starter at best The upside was there for a good rotation, but the downside was what we got to see in 2023. Reaping. Sowing. Yada yada yada.
  8. Sign me up for 1/10 for Montgomery on day 1.
  9. It was MUCH easier to get tickets back then. Even for Pedro starts you could walk up and get tickets on gameday. I got tickets to a Bartolo Colon v Pedro matchup that way back then. I think things started to take off after the '99 playoffs from what I remember.
  10. I think they need someone in between.
  11. That was his calling card if his offense doesn't work out.
  12. Yeah, he's not in my top 20.
  13. He'd be fine. His 4.10 xFIP that year wasn't that far off from his career norms at the time. I don't see him as being better than a #3 though.
  14. Remember everyone, when a player doesn't perform it's always someone else's fault!
  15. It's been noted on his chart for a loooong time.
  16. Now THAT is a vocab word.
  17. Oh yeah? But whataboutism: @alexspeier Announced attendance -- paid tickets -- is 30,029. It's the lowest attendance at Fenway for a Red Sox-Yankees game (not including pandemic-restricted crowd sizes of 2021 and 2020) since May 27, 1999.
  18. https://twitter.com/redsoxstats/status/1701680312525205846 @redsoxstats That was a frustrating at-bat by Rafaela in a big spot. Got two horrendous breaking balls hung over the heart of the plate and fouled them off, while swinging at 3 pitches way out of the zone. The Rafaela experience in a nutshell.
  19. https://www.mlb.com/redsox/team/front-office/brian-ohalloran I guess he's a CIA plant. Before working in baseball, he spent two years studying ethnic conflict in Tbilisi, Georgia, and three years supervising business operations for an international logistics company in Moscow, Russia.
  20. I don't think they can pass two teams. It's too hard at this point. The magic number is at 14. If they sweep those series, but go 7-6 the rest of the way, TOR/TEX get into the playoffs going .500 against all other opponents. The likelihood of the Sox going on a 13-6 run is slim to none with Paxton and Sale being shut down for the year. They just have no pitching left.
  21. If they had a replacement today that was better than Bloom (THEO), I'd say just rip the bandaid off. I don't think they really are close to getting that. Anyone they get is just rearranging furniture. Could BOH do the job without Bloom?
  22. With the visible smoke and buzzards, it's probably time to start placing our bets.
  23. Doesn't help them pass SEA. If they go 6-0 in those three games, they still could be 3 games back of the WC.
  24. Yes it is. Especially for this team.
  25. Did you expect something more from us?
