Which ones? When I looked at the trade deadline, it didn't look like the pitchers that would have helped us would have been traded for the SS prospects that we had.
Lawler was the Sox initial target, but Mayer was perceived to be the number 1 pick. Either way, it's a crapshoot. Not sure why Lawlar had to be brought up.
The average age of a player in AA is 24.
I don't think Rosier or Ferguson will amount to anything, but I wouldn't say any prospect in AA who is 24 is an automatic beer leaguer.
Murphy is a bullpen guy only. They wouldn't move him back to the rotation.
Drohan has a lot of work to do to get to BOS. Wikelman may be closer than he is. Perales still is far away IMO. I wouldn't really count on those 3 to contribute at all next season.
They need 2 starters this season IF they want to make a run at the playoffs. Whitlock needs to be put in the pen. They can't count on Sale to pitch 30+ starts.
That will happen if the Sox only bring in one starter. If that's the case and they are still relying on Sale as a fulltime starter, it will be another rough season for the Sox.
At this point, I don't think you offer him a QO. He's putting up worse numbers than 2022 Wacha and they didn't offer Wacha a QO. 1st half Paxton gets a QO. 2nd half Paxton is getting sent to FA.
The hit rate sucks for all MLB draft picks. The issue is that pitchers are a much volatile commodity as they have a higher injury risk even if you hit on the pick.
Mata isn't a starter. He has no options left. I'm not sure they can even have him on the roster next season so I think he's dealt this winter.
FA
Trade
Bello
Sale
Houck/Crawford
Yes, until he can make the big FA acquisition (Story/Masa weren't that) or make the big trade, I won't believe that he can get it done. For now, he's just the guy who can build up a farm and put a .500ish ballclub on the field.
