  1. How would they know without asking?
  2. lol wut?!?!?
  3. @tylermilliken_ According to @mikemayer22, the Red Sox have signed reliever Michael Fulmer. He posted a 4.42 ERA/4.15 FIP in 57 IP last season for the Cubs, but will miss all of 2024 after undergoing UCL revision surgery on his right elbow. Might be the reliever form of the James Paxton deal. @ChrisCotillo Per MLB transactions log, Red Sox have signed Michael Fulmer to a minor league deal. He had UCL revision surgery in March so likely out all of 2024. Bet that’s a 2-year minor league deal. All-Star in 2017.
  4. When I've looked at previous year's rosters and have seen guys like Josh Ockimey, Jeremy Barfield, Marcus Wilson and Bryce Brentz hang around for years without ever really needing to play. All these guys mentioned today don't matter. They are completely fungible.
  5. All of this!
  6. Once Roman is called up to AAA this year, one of these guys is going to get waived.
  7. They need a utility guy in AAA because Fitzy was taken in Rule 5 and if there's an injury to the OF, he'd be the first guy to come up. I think this means they are likely to not sign an OFer and are going to have Rafaela and Abreu on the Opening Day roster. It also gives them additional roster security if they move Duran/Rafaela. The other OFers are Mark Contreras (MiLB deal with MLB experience), Corey Rosier (mid defender, offense wasn't great in AAA) and Eddy Alvarez (journeyman type). Guthrie is a step up from those guys in case of injury to someone on the main roster. He'd be a guy you'd call up to sit on the bench for the most part. Defensive replacement in the late innings or something.
  8. The only way people get around the idea of "Mookie was never going to sign an extension with the Red Sox" but "Mookie signed an extension with the Dodgers" is that they have to build a narrative that either Mookie's mom was truly evil and didn't want Mookie to play in Boston OR Mookie just really fell in love with LA and liked the idea of being in the big media friendly environment OR it was COVID's fault. There's no other way to link those two ideas without creating some sort of song and dance (that can't be proven) to explain it away.
  9. I'd care more!
  10. Guthrie was DFA'd 3 times last year. Good chance he's DFA'd this year! He's definitely towards the bottom of the 40 man. Yu Chang of the OF?
  11. Look, watching baseball games and getting quotes from baseball players after the game is hard work! It's a grind! They can't possibly be everywhere at once!
  12. They need to still kiss the ring or Cotillo will have to start paying for his ice cream.
  13. In '23, Guthrie had a 748 OPS in AAA, his third year at that level. Not great! I'd have him above Hamilton on the depth chart and wouldn't care if Hamilton was DFA'd.
  14. He already stated as much this offseason that he's just too busy with the shiny new toys.
  15. Betts stated last year that he was never given a 300M offer from the Sox. When asked about negotiations he said "go ask Bloom" and we never got anything further. Why? Sox never refuted what he said.
  16. After Betts was signed?
  17. Or he was just disinterested as he is now? Hard to say.
  18. I don't remember this.
  19. Really hard for some people on here.
  20. He also tried negotiating and the Sox stopped negotiating. Henry: We'll give you 300. Mookie: How about 400? Henry: twiddle thumbs for a while... Bloom: You're traded now. At any point they could have countered Mookie's 400. They CHOSE not to. Mookie CHOSE a number between 300 and 400. It's clear he had an appetite for an amount somewhere in between the Sox offer and his counter. Sox just didn't want to negotiate.
  21. Well, the new guy can't. Hamilton hits well at AAA. New guy can't even do that.
  22. Tin foil hat nonsense.
  23. And yet he still signed an extension with LA. Very weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Zero chance for Snell.
  25. Since I just saw my first clip of the year of a pitcher throwing at the Fort, it was time for the Spring Training thread. @BeyondtheMnstr Red Sox starter Brayan Bello has been in Fort Myers since Winter Weekend. Bello wants to be the Opening Day starter against Seattle. https://twitter.com/BeyondtheMnstr/status/1755332458675904572
