  1. I guess some people just like to argue for the sake of arguing. Not me. 😇
  2. His implication was that a -3 DRS for a UTIL player at one position wasn't a problem at all. He was there as a backup or injury insurance. He said you can live with that deficiency because the player is able to move around the field. Again, if he's a plus at 2B/3B (maybe) then you can ignore him being a slight minus at SS. He's not saying that defense is good at all, just that you can live with it. You said "it's really bad" which I disagree with for sure. Small sample sized DRS doesn't extrapolate well over 162 games. For example, Rafaela had a -4 DRS due to one or two plays early on. Was that indicative of his defense? Probably not! He's already at a 1 DRS a few weeks later. If DHam played SS fulltime, the additional reps could get him more comfortable to fielding the position such that his -3 may only be a -4 for the full season. That's Xander Bogaerts-esque. Better than Story or Bichette were last season.
  3. Valdez knew there was no lifeline out there from his coach. He was left out there to dry due to the bullpen games and lack of rotation options. He probably thought he should have been done after the 8 runs. Going back out there for the 4th pushed him over the edge. He gave up the two HR's. He saw his coach had no intention of getting him out of there and decided to end his night right there.
  4. The Tigers announcers believe it was unintentional. Or at least believe he shouldn't have been tossed.
  5. No. He threw at it because he wanted out. If he had given up two straight line drive doubles, it would have been the same thing. If Contreras hadn't pimped his HR, it wouldn't have mattered.
  6. Then why not throw at Abreu who hit right after Contreras? Almost every slugger these days takes their time with the homerun trot and getting out of the box. This goes back 20+ years at this point.
  7. Most everyone who is thinking rationally thinks he did it specifically to get taken out of the game.
  8. It hasn't happened before in his MLB career per bref. I looked at every multiple HR start for him. Most of the time he gave up dingers, he didn't have HBP's. In games where he blew up and was a train wreck like yesterday, his HBP's happened before the HR's.
  9. Famously, Sox internal metrics believe DHam would be a good SS for some reason.
  10. Theo worked for the Tigers?
  11. I didn't care about the drop in performance part of your original argument. You asked me about it and I followed up. Seems dumb that they dumped him right as there was a quick downturn. Payroll ranking by year: 15: 6 16: 4 17: 5 18: 16 19: 22 They haven't been a top half of the league in payroll since getting out from under the contracts that were from DD/Illich Sr.
  12. You're not really getting out of it if you're paying towards the contract in 2020.
  13. Wow, DD had taken over a Tigers team that was below .500 for 8 straight seasons. It took them 9 years to get back to the playoffs after firing DD. Yuck. DD had 8 seasons above .500. If you exclude the DD years, you have to go back to 1986 to total 8 seasons above .500. Double Yuck. DD is the best thing to happen to that franchise since the 1980's.
  14. DD had a trade package in hand and decided not to go through with it.
  15. They were able to. They didn't want to.
  16. Is Marte in the Freeman/Altuve/Springer tier of players? Yes. Ok, then me saying 3-4 decent seasons isn't out of the realm of possibility. ⚖️
  17. I will be unable to watch tonight so anything is possible.
  18. For a guy that intentionally crosses up his catcher, it makes perfect sense that he's throwing at a batter to get out of the game.
  19. I think most Sox fans look over the past 7 seasons and think "it would have been more fun to at least have had Mookie around for this." Giving up on HOF talent in the prime of their career is a very bad look that was near impossible to sell to the fanbase. I'd say the fanbase hasn't recovered from that one decision.
