  1. Why add players to the 40 man when you don't have to? Other guys will have to come off the IL at some point and push them off? Unless they are calling up Meidroth, there's no reason to add him.
  2. It's just adding Kavadas solely because Casas is injured. If he's coming back in 2 months, you have Kavadas stuck on the 40 man in AAA thanks to the Sox current LH DH.
  3. Statcast has exit velos on AAA games and some other MiLB games now.
  4. Boggs was able to utilize the Green Monster and hit lots of doubles. Meidroth is a singles hitter who rarely hits the ball beyond 200'. He only had 19 doubles last season.
  5. It's still bottom 10th percentile in exit velo for MLB.
  6. Criswell: 2.38 ERA, 4.57 xFIP He's not walking anyone and is keeping that WHIP low. If they can get him in and out without getting into trouble, they may stand a chance. He's definitely outclassed by Webb. SF offense is ok, but they aren't going to make any mistakes on defense, unlike the Sox.
  7. If they were comfortable with Meidroth at SS, he'd have a shot before Sogard IMO. Benitez seems to have a good shot at joining the bullpen. Kavadas may be stuck in AAA now that they got Cooper.
  8. Fitts - maybe Gambrell - maybe Guerrero - maybe All the other guys are either further away or are too one dimensional to add to the 40 man roster this year. They made a mistake in adding Hamilton to the 40 man last year and now they are stuck with using him. They shouldn't do the same thing with Hickey, Jordan or Yorke until they are forced to add them due to Rule 5 restrictions. Sogard is really just an org guy. He's this year's Fitzy. Not sure if he get added.
  9. I have Hamilton as my first guy to be DFA'd. He has value to a contending team that can stash him on the bench. That's not what the Sox need right now. He's a wasted roster spot for them because he just can't play defense. They need guys with more than just speed as a tool.
  10. We're using every man available this year.
  11. High walk rate, stuff is whatever. I don't think there's a high ceiling for him. He's already 29.
  12. The only problem is that he may struggle when he gets to MLB without a harder contact %. There is not a long list of guys who succeed without being able to hit the ball hard here or there especially if they don't have speed as a carrying tool. He can take a walk, but that will only get him so far. I also disagree that 1B is his best position. He's been average at 2B and 3B and he doesn't have the size for 1B.
  13. He'd be better at 2b/ss/3b than anyone we've put there except Story. His SS defense is on par with Rafaela's I believe.
  14. Dobbins - yes Paulino - no Jordan - maybe, he'd be behind Kavadas/Hickey/Meidroth Bastardo - probably as his stuff has ticked up this year
  15. DFA List (in order): Hamilton Dalbec Guttierez Mata Valdez Uwasawa Walter Anderson
  16. Yes! They shouldn't add anyone to the 40 man. That way it won't reduce anyone's CONTROL.
  17. Not an easy play for sure, but not a gimmie tag situation for Duran. Swanson has a stronger arm than Mookie which is insane to me. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/arm-strength?type=player&year=2024&minThrows=50&pos=arm_ss&team= Mookie was gunning down runners from deep RF not all that long ago.
  18. Not sure either is going to improve much with another stint in AAA. Valdez is a lost cause in the field. Hamilton is just a lost cause.
  19. Can't add them to the 40 man this year as it would reduce the amount of CONTROL the team has over them! I don't think anyone would take Paulino or Gambrell in the Rule 5 draft. Probably not Jordan either.
  20. There have been a lot of early season transactions, but nothing really meaningful. I think Yorke is promoted before Mayer simply because of AB's at the level. Penrod could get an early bump to AAA. Castro to AA.
  21. Except that when the ball is in the air, it's not clear that Dansby is going to have to leave his feet for the ball. If he catches the ball, spins and throws Duran is out IMO.
  22. @PatrickDLyons For the first time since 1910 and only the second time in the history of the baseball, the Colorado Rockies have trailed in all 28 games to start a season.
  23. @brendan_camp Blaze Jordan (Portland) and Tyler Miller (Greenville) were named Eastern League and South Atlantic League Players of the Week, respectively.
  24. Very likely IMO as it would speed the game up. Sogard wouldn't be added until this offseason when he'll be Rule 5 eligible and they need to maintain CONTROL over him.
  25. They need someone to back up SS. Westbrook has only 9 IP of pro ball there. Meidroth is not a SS, just 2b/3b.
