  1. Acquire Giolito and if he's fantastic you can either spin him at the deadline or offer him a QO. Also, they needed innings so that they could protect some of their younger/less experienced arms.
  2. In order of importance for competing: 1. starter health 2. offense 3. bullpen 4. defense
  3. 100%. If they aren't dealing for pitchers, how else are they acquiring them? Very weird how they built the top of the organization recently. There are theories that Bloom was set to make big trades this offseason and acquire pitching, but I can't believe that s*** until I actually see it.
  4. Why would the Sox go over the CBT for a 2 year deal when they don't plan on competing this year? Doesn't seem to make sense to me, especially if they are working on Casas' extension too.
  5. Bard, Workman, Owens and Barnes is better than what Cherington did. Hard to say on DD (Houck/Crawford) or Bloom.
  6. His splitter/slider pitch is weird. It really falls off he table. He's got all the tools to be a great starter, but just can't stay healthy. Trevor Story also continues to look locked in. Rafaela looked lost at the plate. The announcers made a point to talk about how patient the Sox had been all night and Rafaela swung at the first pitch and grounded into a DP. He also had some really tough swings on balls OOZ. I wonder if MLB pitchers will be much harder on him than the MiLB ST guys he was facing.
  7. Largely thanks to 12 years of Ben, Dave and Bloom.
  8. Unless you can draft like the O's.
  9. Ryan Fernandez is now with STL and will likely stay the whole year.
  10. The Boston Mid Sox.
  11. Good trade bait? Nats wanted to grab him with the first pick overall. Someone would have wanted him for a roster spot is my guess. Even if you are dumping him for a flier, it's better than just losing him. Maybe they figured they'd rather him get taken and hope he'd return?
  12. Ben was a pretty dismal drafter. DD was marginally better. Since Theo, the 1st round pitchers were Kopech, Light, Ball, Johnson, Goome and Houck. It's not a great bunch. So far, it's been 6 straight drafts where the first pick has not been a pitcher.
  13. To me, the Sox just had such a barren crop of starting pitchers that I would have erred on keeping Ward over some of the relief arms that were more dime a dozen. Ward wasn't a must keep, but it wasn't a surprise he went first overall. And to not even try to trade him earlier that offseason? Very weird.
  14. Starting Pitchers Only 2022: Ward, Song 2023: Drohan Ward had a 6.37 ERA (5.98 xFIP) last season out of the pen and will most likely be in AAA all year. Song was returned to the Sox at year end and will maybe reach AA by year end this year, but is only likely to be a reliever going forward. He's not the guy he was back in Lowell. Drohan struggled after reaching AAA last year, had shoulder surgery this spring and there is no timetable for his return. Aside from his 6 really good starts in AA in '23, the rest of his MiLB career hasn't been very impressive.
  15. Sox released Gilberto Jimenez, former #4 prospect.
  16. @enosarris Spring Stuff+ leaders, min 100 pitches tracked 1) Nick Pivetta 140 2) Alex Lange 3) Grayson Rodriguez 4) Jared Jones 131 5) Luis Gil 6) Riley O'Brien 7) Ryan Pepiot 8) Chad Green 9) Beau Brieske 10) Isaiah Campbell 125 Kyle Ort was a Stuff+ guy last year.
  17. @RandyJMiller Alcohol ruined Domingo German’s Yankees career, but he still drinks because ‘I don’t have a problem’ Why can't Crag sign guys like this?
  18. @GaryHPhillips Brian Cashman said DJ LeMahieu is starting the season on the IL.

    3 in/3 out

NL is SF, STL (division), CIN (wc)
  20. Dumpster dives aren't typically young prospects, even unheralded ones like Arauz. With Rule 5 guys, they are fliers that you grab prior to ST and just send back if it doesn't work out. It's not the same as churning through FA pitchers and finding a guy who is 32, has pitched on 5 teams and will line up to be your 4/5, but will likely get sent to the pen midyear. The endless supply of 29 year old relief arms that are picked up on the waiver wire are also "dumpster dives" unlike the Rule 5 guys.
  21. His final two appearances of the year: NYY 9/8 7 Inn, 1 ER NYY 9/10 2.1 Inn, 0 ER On 7/20 and 8/4 he got beat up really bad by Milwaukee. Thankfully, he wasn't playing Milwaukee in the one game playoff. Excluding those two starts: 68 IP, 25 ER, 3.30 ERA. Why even have guys like LaRose and Sprowl start games down the stretch? It doesn't make sense.

    3 in/3 out

    Maybe NYY, SEA, CLE
  23. Thanks to a damn hamster in a Red Sox uni that wouldn't let Bill Lee start some games down the stretch.
  24. I could see almost any team except for the Sox.
  25. I've never heard of a Rule 5 guy being a dumpster dive.
