  1. The NBA back in the 50's was even more archaic. This year's Celtics would beat those teams by 50 points. I discount all NBA stats prior to the ABA merger.
  2. Fastballs can't rise. It's an impossibility. Houck with guys behind him that could legitimately play defense? He probably has an ERA under 1.50 60 years ago.
  3. Send Hugh back to 1910 and he hits 280, easy.
  4. He injured the same leg last season and was put on the IL for 2 weeks. He's had more IL days than games played so far in his career.
  5. Mayer is leading the entire minor leagues in 2B's.
  6. Willie Mays would still be an MLBer today. Frank Robinson would still be an MLBer today. Ty Cobb? It's really hard to say.
  7. I think the A's aren't very good, so probably the Reds. The integrated teams from the 70's are more modern than what the game was in the Cobb through DiMaggio days.
  8. They may be better, but I think it's ridiculous to keep assuming that the greatest players of all time are long dead and the current players are outside the top 50.
  9. @SoxProspects FCL Red Sox lineup- 5/23 1. Franklin Arias- 2B (#SP60 #22) 2. Yoeilin Cespedes- SS (#5) 3. Brooks Brannon- 1B (#46) 4. Andruw Musett- C 5. Kleyver Salazar- DH 6. Raimundo De Los Santos- CF 7. Yosander Asencio- RF 8. Karim Ayubi- LF 9. Yohander Linarez- 3B Brannon makes his MiLB debut at 1B. Musett has been raking for FCL Sox at C.
  10. I was only referencing AL teams.
  11. It's a marketing thing. Baseball clings to the past like no other sport. Any top 25 list always heavily leans to players pre-1980 and often features black and white film where players are sped up awkwardly. If you put Ohtani on the 1927 Yankees, he'd outhit Gehrig and Ruth. If you brought 1927 Gehrig and Ruth to the 2024 Dodgers, they wouldn't make the All Star team and maybe not even get a starting spot on the Dodgers. The players now are better than they've ever been. Send Houck back to the Dodgers of the early 60's and he's neck and neck with with Koufax.
  12. I wouldn't say ANY team. Yankees look good. Guardians have been on fire lately. Royals seem to be decent. Orioles are good. White Sox, A's and Angels are horrible. The rest are a murky middle right now that could go up or down.
  13. Schiraldi had 2 outs and then gave up 3 straight hits. Maybe trying to get more than 2 innings out of him wasn't a great idea? If McNamara went to the Steamer for a clean inning, maybe they win it?
  14. Maybe? Even the Rays are due for a down year. The Jays are talking like it's time for a fire sale.
  15. A "playoff team" on 5/23 with horrible underlying metrics. With 6 teams able to get into the playoffs each season now, any team above .500 is theoretically in the playoff picture until halfway through September at least.
  16. He needs to rip on someone every time he posts lately even if he's making up an argument. Maybe something snaps in your brain after hitting 80k posts? IDK.
  17. The Rays are 28th in pitching fWAR and 19th in batting fWAR. They aren't a good team. They still had the Sox number for whatever reason. Glad they got over the hump for one series at least.
  18. Rays spanked the s*** out of them last season. If the Sox can hang around against divisional opponents, they'll have a much better shot at the WC.
  19. Why are you so high on Arias? I'm a little worried about Zanetello being able to stay on the field.
  20. Smart to bring it up several years later when it can no longer be verified.
  21. Offense has underperformed and the pitching has overperformed. All in all, they are about where we expected them to be. At least it seems like there are some bright spots unlike last season where the bright spot was just Casas.
  22. After 50 games last season, they were 26-24.
  23. And I think this lines up with what some smart posters were saying this offseason. The team would probably have a similar or worse record than last year, but would be more fun to watch.
  24. I stan the 04 rotation simply because the 5 starters averaged 31 GS and 198.2 IP. I don't think we'll see that again, at least for a long time.
  25. Perales was promoted to POR last night.
