    His swing decisions are fine, but he has a looking strike % of 33.1% which is 3rd highest on the team and only behind Reyes and Westbrook. On percentage of pitches swung at, only Westbrook is less. I think he's just too passive of a hitter. He doesn't strike out, doesn't walk, he pounds the ball into the ground, but isn't a speed guy. If he's not lifting the ball, he's kind of useless IMO.

    It seems obvious now, but they rushed him before. Hard to read the tea leaves around here. With Yoshida, they've plopped him on the bench for days and days and just ignored him at times. They just may do it again. I don't think it's the smart thing to do, but they may go that route.

    He was the most valuable MLB guy not named Casas or Bello. Teams want MLB ready players and the Sox didn't have a lot to offer. Also, it would still make sense in the right trade. I don't think anyone is untouchable.

    People may still get their wish in the next few years. At some point, one of these guys is going to get crowded out somehow.

    What he needs to work on is the defense. That's what isn't showing up on the boxscore.

    There is a HUGE difference in competition as you climb the ladder. If he's struggling against LHP in AA, you can't just write it off as SSS.

    @brendan_camp Juan Valera today for the FCL Red Sox: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K Retired 11 of the 15 batters he faced and lowered his ERA on the season to 2.31 over 21 1/3 innings. Opponents are batting just .143 against him.

    I think we are getting closer to a Mayer and Teel promotion to AAA in the next few weeks. Anthony may trail little bit behind, but should still be promoted this season. I don't think we see any of them this year in BOS. Mayer has an outside chance if he keeps hitting and the Sox see the production dip in MIF, but the team is still in it.

    You can find AB's for him, but he'll slow down. Bench him when he cools off.

    3. Dumping Yoshida would greatly hurt any chance of the Sox acquiring a Japanese player in the next few years.

    I enjoy it when he plays well. I close my eyes or at least flinch when the ball heads his way. His bat has looked good in this short timeframe, but there's no way in hell it holds up. All of his underlying metrics are bad except for chase rate.

    No, because I don't believe that theory has much validity. Cora seems to be really good at getting a lot out of some of these younger players.
