  1. Kelly was gone for 5 years. Fedde just one. Kelly also wasn't that great over there. His numbers didn't really pop until he was back here for a few years.
  2. If he pitched the 3rd game of the year rather than the first, I think Kluber would be more easily forgotten. Cora did Sale a favor by having him pitch the 2nd game, but it threw Kluber under the bus.
  3. On cue: @SoxProspects Our @SPChrisHatfield is reporting that Marcelo Mayer is headed to the Portland 7-day IL for the hip issue that led to him leaving Tuesday's game and missing yesterday's. Team source says they only expect him to need the minimum stint.
  4. If you want him traded, hope he balls out the rest of the way this year the way Nick Yorke did in AAA. Then you can package him with something and maybe a team takes on that contract.
  5. I'd rather have Edman and prospects than Fedde.
  6. Mickey Romero GRE: 50 G, 858 OPS, 9 HR At the same age, Yorke was struggling at the same level: 80 G, 668 OPS, 11 HR Both players dealt with injuries that held them out at times. It'll be interesting to see if Romero's defense keeps him in the org for a while or if the Sox move on from him as well. He could be important insurance for Mayer since Marcelo also has his own injury concerns.
  7. 1/10M is fine! Were there additional years tacked on I didn't know about?
  8. Just keep getting those large contracts like Story, Yoshida and Giolito because they are a big boy team!
  9. A 31 year old pitcher who is having his first stretch of good MLB baseball ever. I don't think that deal was a bargain.
  10. Tommy Edman put up 6.2 bWAR last year. Then Kopech and a bunch of prospects were thrown in. Sox would have had to trade O'Neilll plus prospects to get Fedde. His metrics aren't that great. He's put up numbers, but his xERA and FIP point to regression. Last 5 games: 4.55 FIP. I'm not really excited about trading for guys that are having career years like Fedde or Pomeranz.
  11. @tylermilliken_ I’ll never forget Dom Smith and the month of July. 24 Games - 76 PA .290/.355/.565/.920 3 HR 10 2B 11 RBI .275 ISO 150 wRC+ Those dang d%$&ster d*&es.
  12. 87 G - Masa 3 G - Valdez A little bit of a difference IMO.
  13. IMO, the Sox just weren't sure about Rule 5ing him and wanted to give playing time to Mayer, Meidroth, Campbell and others. Yorke got hot, increased his value and the Sox capitalized. GRE '22: 668 OPS POR '23: 785 OPS POR '24: 691 OPS That they could spin this guy for a 23 year old AAA starter with a 3.21 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 5.14 K/BB? Count me all the way in! SoxProspects already said he's the second best pitcher in the farm behind Perales. David Sandlin is the same age, but in AA and on a pitch restriction.
  14. Wrong. Yorke was actively pouting in AA this year and putting up bad numbers. Miss me on that. He can go hit 750 and play below average D in PITT. I'll take a flier on a pitcher that has succeeded throughout his career in the minors (unlike '22-'23 Yorke) and just needs to figure it out at the next level.
  15. 700 PA's in AA of mediocrity for Yorke plus lots of injury history and he's more LF than 2B. If that's the prospect you want to lean in on, go for it.
  16. Selected by Pittsburgh in the first round (No. 18 overall) of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the right-hander was ranked by Baseball America as a top 100 prospect in 2021 (No. 58) and 2022 (No. 88).
  17. Gasper is an ok catcher, but he's played almost as many games at 1B as C this year. He's just a nice AAA guy. If he gets a cup of coffee, great.
  18. We know that the prices were outrageously high. I think the Sox did fine if the best prospect they let go was Nick Yorke.
  19. If Valdez played Yoshida level defense in LF after only 18 career starts, they would have kept him out there. My guess is that he was bad enough in the 3 starts for WOO that they ended that nonsense.
  20. Who else was available when those guys were picked up?
  21. Add him to the edible names list.
  22. -0.2 bWAR in 1.1 innings.
  23. @alexspeier Sogard will play second vs lefties. Westbrook just wasn't good enough and Sogard is a better defender. Westbrook initially called up since he'd be easier to DFA later on IMO.
  24. Sims activated. Ramirez DFA'd.
