So far, Grissom has gone 1-4 with a bb today.
single 93 mph, 263'
groundout 85 mph, 17'
lineout 86 mph, 284'
Seems like not a whole lot going on still. Not watching the games so I can't say if the at bats are productive or not. Results aren't there yet though.
I bet WAR factors in more and more every year, especially now that you see it frequently on baseball broadcasts. I believe most active BBWAA are aware of WAR and other metrics at this point and are not just relying on baseball card stats.
If Ceddanne won ROY, he'd be the weakest offensive winner since Bobby Crosby in 2004 (bad rookie class).
Grissom's last 10 ab's:
3 k's
ground out 74.8 mph, 7'
ground out 102 mph, 44'
bb
single 85 mph, 11'
ground out 66 mph, 9'
fly out 95.8 mph, 382'
single 95.2 mph, 10'
If they are looking, they aren't seeing much.

Casas is 105 and 106 mph off the bat to start the game today. He has 6 hits, 4 doubles, 3 walks, and a 50% hard hit rate in 23 PA to start his rehab. He's supposed to play in Syracuse again tomorrow, but I wonder if we just see him Friday night at Fenway.
Keep Smith on the bench for the vibes and insurance (Casas may have setbacks and could need days off). Option Hamilton.
I'd trade Mayer, but it's likely the Sox won't. Much more likely they move Grissom.
They brought Grissom on because their 2B of the future (Yorke) was struggling in AA. Their SS of the future (Mayer) was coming off a season that ended in injury. The outlook in the MIF was strong overall, but murky at the highest MiLB levels. Hamilton didn't have a perceived high ceiling at the time. Valdez could only hit RHP and has no clue in the field. Pablo Reyes (eventually DFA'd) was the RH'd option. I believe Breslow preferred trading for a prospect starter, but settled for a 2b as that also needed a short term upgrade.
That's not what people vote for with the ROY though. It's back of the card stats and whatever metrics and feelings they have. Nobody is going to say "oh, well he's been getting much better each month and should be better than these other guys going forward" when they are voting. The vote doesn't matter enough for voters to get into that detail.
Grissom has a 706 OPS in AAA this year. He has not been good. I wouldn't pencil him anywhere near BOS. Mayer is younger, has more power and is a much better fielder. Grissom wouldn't even be a speed bump. I wouldn't be surprised to see Grissom traded. All he has going for him right now is he's a RHB.
"Don't load the team up with rookies... need to make space for veterans like GRISSOM!"
Grissom isn't going to be handed the starting role. I think he's going to have to earn it, but other players will leap ahead of him. Seems like a bench bat?
Did the Red Sox make the playoffs in 1975?
Not going to get worked up over a 17 game sample. However, it's like 339 since May 25th (60 Games). This is about the same as Dom Smith's over the same period. Lower than Masa's since coming back from injury.
@SmittyOnMLB
The Red Sox felt good about trading Alex Verdugo because they believed in Wilyer Abeu.
Abreu has more extra-base hits (38) than Verdugo (35) in 159 fewer plate appearances.
