  1. Looking objectively: 2011 - historic collapse, Lackey was worst pitcher in Sox history, only miss playoffs by one game 2012 - Virtually the same roster except for Scutaro, 4th and 5th starters will be better than last year (at the very least no worse) Objective conclusion - playoff contention
  2. Copy and pasting from other sources doesn't make you sound smarter. Revenue recognition for American companies isn't the same as Mexican and other foreign companies as they fall under different accounting standards. Throwing concepts at a wall to see which ones will stick is no way to have an efective conversation about something. My point all along has been that the Nationals are not a small market team since they are in DC. They don't have a huge following because they've only been around a few years and are in the O's backyard. However, by infusing capital in the team and generating fan excitement, the overall prospects for the Nationals doing well in DC are fairly high. However, infusing capital into a small market team (i.e. Rays) will not help as there just isn't enough of a market to keep attendence and tv ratings high enough to support a large payroll. The DC area is well populated and affluent enough to support a baseball team with a 150M payroll. Tampa is not.
  3. SBF is a little off the mark here. It wasn't 04 that made other fans hate the team, it was that Sox fans live all over the country and fill up opposing teams' stadiums. (Which was definitely helped by the rise of pink hat nation 99-03.) People hated Sox fans because a lot of us are over the top obnoxious. There were enough "1918" chants and fan taunting in stadiums everywhere (including CA where SBF mentions). The change isn't from other fans' perspectives, it was in SBF's perspective. Sox fans were only "loveable" losers in the eyes of other Sox fans. They were just losers to everyone else.
  4. I didn't notice the Reggie Jefferson remark the first time around. Loved that guy!
  5. They just hate obnoxious M*******s in general. People hated the C's in the 80's. Hated the Sox and Pats in the 00's. We'll see when it turns against the B's.
  6. Notice the "if" I put in. I'm not sure he'll get there, but I'd feel more comfortable with Miller than Silva, Maine, or Cooke.
  7. I'd cut Doubront and Miller a little slack. If Miller worked out his control issues, he'd be a fine 5 or 6. Doubront (and Tazawa) needs to have a strong ST. I remember Junichi pitching well against NYY 2 seasons ago. People were high on him then, don't know why people would be down on him now.
  8. The Clippers. You are still clueless. Justbecause you don't think a team is popular, doesn't mean they are a small market. Would you have called the Rangers or Angels small market teams 2 years ago?
  9. Padilla has the best arm of all of them. He's a certifiable nutjob though. He makes Julian Tavares seem like a reasonable guy. I think he has the best shot to eat up 5th starter innings (at least better than last year's versions of Wake and Lackey) but I'm not sure he can stay on his rocker long enough. Maybe just bide time til DiceK comes back? I think Cooke is terrible and don't see him making the team. Maine might get rocked in AAA. The other guys are mysteries, but you never know where you'll find the next Frank Castillo.
  10. Bottom line is that you guys didn't buy enough Fenway bricks last year. If you weren't so stingy with your own money, the Sox would have a complete rotation. I put in a new patio with my bricks so you can personally thank me for Cody Ross.
  11. Keep throwing "globally in there even though it's neither mentionned nor inferred in the definition you provided.
  12. Per iOrtiz, the NY Rangers aren't a big market team. Globally, I doubt anyone gives two shits about the Mets. Still a big market team. Enjoy your bizzaro definition of market size.
  13. Not sure that there are more than a handful of fans worried about luxury tax.
  14. Why wait until midseason to make a trade? It's like saying, we'll suck for a little but figure it out later.
  15. And if Shields regresses to pre2010 form, the Rays are notbetter than the Sox.
  16. RSFFL, didn't you know that DET is an amazing team now they have Prince, lost VMart, and gained nothing else?!?!?
  17. Or trade for proven SP. I'm not an Oswalter guy.
  18. Uh, that was on purpose.
  19. I totally agree.
