Trade for an ace. Figure out the rest from there. Without a true #1, this team will always be an "also-ran." No combination of Sanchez, Jackson, Buerhle, Johnson, Dempster, and Kuroda would change that.
Did John Lackey improve the pitching staff here? This team needs less mediocre pitchers and more frontline starters. Sanchez is a 3-4. We have enough of those already...
This is basically the thought process that gave us such great contracts as Lackey, Crawford, Cameron, etc. Signing some shmo just for the sake of spending money is not how responsible teams build their organization.
What young players were showcased last year? Lavs showed he could catch. Iggy showed he still can't hit. Pedro (not a prospect) showed he could sub when needed. Tazawa pitched great. Gomez (not a prospect) showed he's a marginal talent.
It's not like Brentz, JBJ and Xander were getting reps.
s***, Lavs is more defensively ready than Salty. Once Napoli is signed, Salty will be shown the door. It'll be a 50/50 Ross/Lavs split until Lavs starts hitting.
I just think it's interesting that LL wanted deep depth, but Nava will still be suiting up. I just don't see the FO accomplishing what they set out to.
Looks like TS is getting its wish. I'm ok with it as he can play above average OF at all 3 spots. He showed that he belonged in 2010. I hope he can return to form. He could be a decent platoon with Gomes if he could stay healthy.
