  1. Beninturdi will be in the OF in 2 years (maybe sooner). Holt and a platoon can get by for that long.
  2. Only 1b professionally.
  3. Imo, we aren't clogged and have shown no issues with being clogged. There is no guy on the AAA roster that is blocked that would be on the opening day roster otherwise. David Murphy was let go because they don't want 5 OFers who can't play any IF. It's a waste of a roster spot. Honestly, the difference between Castillo and Murphy at this point is very slim. Being willing to put anyone on the bench no matter the salary will prevent them from any clogging issues. We're not clogged in the rotation. We're not clogged in the bullpen. Where's the clog?
  4. Brian Mitchell out 3 months with fractured toe.
  5. He signed with the Mets for 5.75M this offseason. Murphy was brought in for $2M if he made the team.
  6. Considering the rotation and bullpen question marks, it's not indefensible to use an extra slot on an arm.
  7. Whether he was on the field or not, they saw his work ethic, how he performed in practice, etc.
  8. Semantics. By not offering him an MLB deal, they pretty much released him.
  9. And some teams have been burned by sticking with veterans for too long.
  10. This is fairly solid reasoning. Maybe they were worried that a move to AAA would hurt future trade potential? Idk.
  11. I'd eat 75% of the contract, but wouldn't give up any valuable prospects.
  12. Also, teams that start the season with a lot of question marks (3b, LF, C, Carson Smith, Koji, Porcello, Kelly, ERod) don't typically run the table over the course of a season.
  13. It's a surprise because they were in last place the previous 2 years. They aren't favorites to make the playoffs.
  14. DUMBrowski took over the team last year, watched them day in and day out and decided the only way to fix the mess was blow it up. Castillo and Pablo are both done in Boston. I wonder what he thinks about the long term prospects of Porcello. The bullpen stunk last year and DUMBrowski did some work to fix that in the offseason. He still needs to remake the starting rotation, but that's harder to do than add in bullpen arms.
  15. This is really all that matters now. I'm really hoping for this team to surprise everyone...
  16. Good luck with that.
  17. I feel sorrier for the bench than I do for Henry's wallet.
  18. The Yankees losing bullpen arms: this is a good test for our young power pitchers The Red Sox losing bullpen arms: uh oh
  19. He still hasn't responded about his ERod theory though.
  20. It's not about the overall speed, it's about the difference in speed and movement between pitches.
  21. If Tazawa has a solid season, the pen should be ok enough.
  22. He's been injured. Whatever he brings to the table will be gravy. I don't see him as an 8th inning guy at this point.
  23. A decent fastball and a mediocre breaking ball is enough to get by as a low end reliever in MLB, which is what he currently is.
  24. This election cycle has been the worst/greatest reality show in history.
  25. If he was able to find and develop young pitching, he'd still be here.
