So the Sox are still buyers at 39-45, but the A's are sellers at 38-47? A's have no reason to trade Gray for a package that includes Buchholz or B list Sox prospects.
It's not the same mentality at all. This team is toast right now. They won't be good again until the young pitching pans out. It will be ugly in the short term, but the franchise will be best seeved to move tradeable veteran assets now.
At this point, he hasn't shown enough to stick in the rotation. I guess the FO still is waiting on his upside to come around? I'd just transition him to the bullpen.
Buchholz is too hit or miss. I'd rather deal him now, have another down year next year, but put the Sox in position to be stronger in the long run. The longer you wait to deal him, the smaller the return will be.
Really? He's not better than Joe Kelly. Kelly is down in AAA and outperforming Owens. How could Owens the be called up to Boston and be expected to be better than Kelly? Makes no sense. Owens would be Webster 2.0 at best.
To me, Masterson was a low risk low reward guy. He was unproductive right out of the gate so he should have been dumped the second he came back from the DL.
