  1. If Gray was pitching like an ace, I'd want them to grab him ASAP. Unfortunately, he's pitching like a bottom of the rotation starter. Right now, he makes David Price's current season look like 2000 Pedro.
  2. He hasn't really pitched that well. He has an FIP of 4.50 and a 0.8 WAR. His fastball is getting wrecked and his offspeed pitches aren't making up for it this time (see 2014). Until he gets his slider back, he's suspect. The haul that it would take to get him here is just not worth it. You'd have to send One of the top 4 guys, plus 2 - 3 other guys at a minimum.
  3. I know. I'm just worried it will not last. If it does, I'll admit my error.
  4. The NFL has the weakest union in professional sports. They signed a s***** contract, they need to live by it.
  5. They should trade redundancy, but I think they need to decide long term what to do there. If Moncada is the answer, he needs extensive reps this offseason. Will he be ready for 3b opening day? Maybe not. Midseason call up for 2017? In the meantime, they need to decide if they want to keep Hanley or Shaw. Hanley doesn't have the stick for DH. They will probably need to eat some of his contract and move him to the NL. If they keep Shaw, they'll need a platoon for him (i.e. someone not currently on the roster). Could Sam Travis be a 1b/DH with Travis Shaw? Are they going to bring in an expensive bat like Encarnacion this offseason? I honestly don't think they will. I think they either look to keep Aaron Hill or bring in Brandon Moss rather than grab an Encarnacion.
  6. At some point, the coaching staff needs to know how to fix struggling pitchers. They have no clue how to harness Buchholz or Kelly. It also doesn't help that the guy who leads the team in appearances is a 40 year old reliever with health concerns.
  7. Ramirez doesn't have any power left. He's no longer a 5th hitter. The Sox should move him in the offseason. Shaw can't hit lefties. Sandoval isn't physically fit enough to play MLB. Moncada still hasn't played 1 inning of 3b. Hernandez is not an MLB starter. Travis will lose this whole season to injury and wasn't tearing it up beforehand. Holt can't be relied on to be a starter. Rutledge is a AAAA player who is an ok backup at best. Marrero is all glove and no bat which isn't a very good fit for 3b at the moment.
  8. Tuesday’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game garnered an all-time low 8.7 million viewers, continuing a downward trend in that game’s popularity. In the 1970s the MLB All-Star game routinely topped 30 million viewers, and until 1996 it had never dropped below 20 million. Now the MLB All-Star Game has had fewer than 12 million viewers for six consecutive years. Great job, Bud. You killed it.
  9. It's not a great number, but it has a decent amount of value as it is something we've all been familiar with for most of our lives. When you see a guy with a 2.25 ERA, it generally shows that he has been pitching well. If you see a guy with an ERA above 5, it shows that the pitcher has been knocked around and may not have kept his team in as many games as the fans would have liked. It's why Price's ERA is spoken of more frequently on here than his FIP. His FIP is only .20 higher than his career average. However, his ERA is 1.2 above his career average. We can talk about how a pitcher will do in the future, but it's just guesswork. We can definitively talk about the results from previous games.
  10. My former landlord was a Yankees/Cowboys/Lakers fan. Now THAT is a truly terrible combo.
  11. Go to Rhode Island, there are a ton of Yankees/Patriots fans there. I think there are more Giants/Red Sox fans out there though.
  12. The worst week of the baseball season.
  13. The differrnce between Jets and Browns fans: Browns fans can admit their team is horrible. If the happiest day of your Jets fandom was a regular season win, it is an outright declaration that your team sucks. I mean, the Pats blew donkey balls when I was young, but I could at least point to a win against the Dolphins in the playoffs to reach the superbowl or even the early rollercoaster Bledsoe years. And when my team was garbage, I could at least admit it.
  14. No way do they come back next year with a lame duck manager. If Farrell is still on board, he gets an extension in the offseason.
  15. It's dumb. I think if he handed the phone over that he wouldn't have been suspended as harshly. At the end of the day, I just don't want to hear about it any more.
  16. Hate to break the bad news but the Pats will win the division again. Pats will go 2-2 under Jimmy G. Then with a pissed off Brady, they'll go 11 - 1 the rest of the way. It helps to have a bottom feeder like the Jets in your division year in and year out. Looks like they don't even want a QB this year! Tanking?
  17. I hope they don't reach for DeSclafani. It would be miserable reading his name all garbled on here.
  18. Why haven't they suspended that cheater Andrew Luck? 75% of his footballs were underinflated too.
  19. What a useless troll. You can't even figure out which forum to put your nonsense in.
  20. My only concern is: Another dynamic in play, according to Speier, is that Groome hasn’t yet taken a physical in advance of Friday’s deadline. All things considered, though, the Red Sox will surely be highly motivated to sign him — a big lefty with good velocity and and a terrific curve would be a strong addition to any farm system.
  21. https://twitter.com/alexspeier/status/753245355525955585 @alexspeier Source: Red Sox deal w/1st-rounder Jason Groome 'getting closer,' 'should get done,' though final bonus figure still being discussed.
  22. But Hill isn't signed through next year? He becomes FA in November.
  23. They have him under contract through 2018. I'm sure they could use him in their rotation next year...
  24. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/rangers-interested-in-drew-pomeranz.html Looks like they want a player like Profar.
  25. Pomeranz would cost a pretty penny, unfortunately.
