  1. Pedroia is the 6th best 2b per WAR. That sounds about right to me. He's no longer the best 2b in the game, but he's close to the top 5.
  2. That's what it seems like? Maybe some sort of platoon with Beni in LF and Papi at DH?
  3. Imagine playing basketball against Julius Peppers... Jesus Christ... http://athlonsports.com/nfl/greatest-two-sport-athletes-all-time
  4. Gene Conley Jim Thorpe Brian Jordan (the 90's were chock full of two sport stars) Dave DeBusschere Charlie Ward I'd love it if more athletes did it.
  5. I would. They don't seem to have the injury concerns that we had with Ellsbury.
  6. He's Jason Kendall. If you get a decent return for him, you won't miss him when he's gone.
  7. There was a time in the history of Talksox where a new troll would inevitably drop in after another left. The last Sox fan to troll the board was probably SCM33. SCM's totally going to drop in now, huh?
  8. Well, it's easier to just look at BABIP and say "fluke" than to actually wonder why some people have higher BABIP's to begin with.
  9. Pedroia has greatly exceeded my expectations this year. Last year, his glove looked weaker and he missed a lot of the season. This year, he has hit more to the opposite field than he ever has in his career. I always thought he was too pull happy with all that "la luna" BS. I hope he keeps it up for years to come.
  10. Why be in on Beltran if they planned on bringing Beni up? That's a good question. Maybe they thought he could be ready, but figured Beltran would be a stronger player in a playoff run? IDK.
  11. Well, you'd be wrong. http://www.overthemonster.com/2016/5/9/11639650/red-sox-rich-hill-free-agent-rumors President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski makes it clear he believes that the spot the A's could offer was the real decision maker for the southpaw. "We like what he did for us last year," Dombrowski said. "He pitched very well. It wasn't like we could look at him and say he was a guaranteed starter. We knew we were going to try to add a guy at the top of the rotation. He would've been in competition, and he also would've been a guy if he wasn't starting for us that we could've put into the bullpen. But he just had such a good opportunity with Oakland."
  12. I'd sit Papi against LHP right now and have Young DH.
  13. To this point: I thought the Sox should bring Benintendi up when he was ready as well. However, there was no word out of the front office stating that they thought he would definitely be ready this year. I don't think anyone ever said "if he's ready, just put him in Pawtucket for shits and giggles." I think most people took what Dombrowski stated over and over again about not being sure about when Benintendi would be ready and decided that Benintendi would probably be brought up in September.
  14. Maybe today or tomorrow.
  15. Nope, can never blame Pedroia for anything around here.
  16. It helps that his line drive rate increased, his infield fly ball rate decreased and his hard hit % skyrocketed. Looks like he's just making better contact?
  17. After a strong 2012, Nationals blogger wrote this about him: "19) Sandy Leon, C, Grade C: Defense-oriented catcher can have long career as a backup. Hit .322/.396/.460 this year at three minor league levels, but this was completely out of context with the rest of his career and looks fluky to me. " There are lots of articles about him tearing up the winter league in 2013. Maybe it wasn't such a fluke after all? I don't think he's a .300 hitter, but could he hit .275? Sure seems like it.
  18. I agree. I feel the same way about manager.
  19. I was told there were "countless articles" about Dombrowski saying that he was ready. I couldn't find any that said Benintendi would be called up in the near future prior to August 1. The only articles I found stated that they didn't know when he would be ready. Plain and simple, I don't remember Dombrowski ever stating that Benintendi would likely be called up this year. It directly refutes Nick's assertion. I'm glad he's here. I hope he plays every single day.
  20. Who are YOU to doubt the Fangraphs Tribune?!?
  21. Vazquez should still be in Boston. Swihart should have never been put in LF. At this point, what even is his trade value?
  22. The third google hit: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox/clubhouse_insider/2016/06/dombrowski_andrew_benintendi_impressing_but_too_soon_for "Asked if he was considered for a promotion straight to the majors, Dombrowski said, “Not really. We don’t think he’s ready at this point. We didn’t even talk about him in relation to this move. We just don’t think he’s ready and we wouldn’t want to bring him up here until he’s ready.”
  23. http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2016/07/09/dave-dombrowski-hints-andrew-benintendi-might-not-be-that-far-away-from-big-leagues/ An article from July that is literally the second google hit: "We’ve got a kid like Benintendi coming. I don’t know if it’s this year or next year" Touting Benintendi and saying that he will be promoted in August are two totally different things.
  24. Sure. I don't see them playing above .500 on the road though. As it stands, they are 26-25. With 51 games left, they would need to go 29-22, .569. The Cardinals, Cubs and Nationals are the only teams 7 games above or more on the road at the moment.
  25. .075 maybe? There was a time when literally every new poster that came aboard who disagreed with you was supposedly Dutchy. Honestly, he hasn't been around for a long time (2 years?) and you've called a few people out the past year or so.
