  1. https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/left-on-base-per-game It makes sense that the Sox would leave more runners on since they get more runners on base than any other team. A LOB% stat could be more useful.
  2. On pace for 144 doubles this year. The record is 67. Easy peasy.
  3. It was the right call to make though. Literally no one else on the roster could have pinch ran for him. After Ortiz had advanced to 2b, it made complete sense to take a starting pitcher who is used to having 4-5 days off between games to run onto the field at a moment's notice. He was fresh!
  4. This one should be a gimmie.
  5. The "real" closer would be Carson Smith, once he's ready. Kimbrel is just the 9th inning guy.
  6. Steven Wright is an *******. I'm out on him.
  7. Billy Beane is no Theo Epstein. He may even not be as good as Ben Cherington or Dave Dombrowski (WS appearances for Marlins and Tigers). Beane has only won 1 playoff series ever. Sad! I'm glad he didn't take a job with the Sox.
  8. Worse than having to hear Hawk Harrelson?
  9. And no rings because "baseball is just random" or whatever nonsense Beane yells before he beats up a Coke machine in the book.
  10. Pedroia 2B, Benintendi CF, Betts RF, Ramirez DH, Moreland 1B, Bogaerts SS, Sandoval 3B, Young LF, Leon C
  11. I think he's a decent pitcher. I had injury concerns both prior to and after the trade. I'm just not sure he can hold up. If he stays healthy for a long stretch, it will really benefit this team. Peak Pomeranz > ERod and Wright
  12. Are the radio broadcast streams blacked out as well?
  13. I don't expect anything from Raudes. If Groome doesn't make it, the next great Sox pitching prospect isn't in the organization yet.
  14. http://www.overthemonster.com/2017/4/12/15269616/fernando-abad-where-did-you-come-from-where-did-you-go Either way, it’s strange that a veteran like Abad, who was tendered a contract this winter when the team could have just walked away for nothing, hasn’t gotten to throw in a game yet. At this point, it’s entirely unclear what his role on this team could possibly be. ... The only issue with that plan is that Abad is out of minor-league options and thus would have to be exposed to waivers if designated for assignment. Even if he cleared waivers, he may not accept a demotion to Pawtucket. As we’ve seen this year with the absurd flu epidemic, keeping depth around is important. With that being said, at a certain point it becomes unnecessary. When the team doesn’t trust a player in seemingly any situation, I think we’ve reached that point. If this is how it ends for Abad and the Red Sox, it begs a couple of questions. For one, why was he even tendered a contract this winter? I know we’ve talked about this before, but it’s worth rehashing very quickly. It’s understandable that Scott came into camp and pitched better than expected. However, it’s clear at this point that Farrell doesn’t trust Abad at all. So, is this a new phenomena? It must be, since one would imagine the manager had some input as to whether they’d keep the lefty.
  15. Yes, that would be fine. I'm not trying to tell off anyone. Just suggesting that there are better spots for certain conversations. I'm not sure Shaun Anderson talk would generate much traction in this thread.
  16. I don't think it'll happen either. I also think that some other posters who think he'll do great are just pretending. Otherwise, Pom wouldn't have been on our fantasy waiver wire at the start of the season.
  17. http://www.talksox.com/forum/forums/17-Red-Sox-Minor-Leagues My dudes, we have a Minor League forum for this stuff to go in. If they aren't going to be on the roster in 2017, general comments about prospects should go there. 1. It will generate more meaningful discussion as it won't get buried by MLB stuff 2. It's less clutter for the MLB board
  18. The system has been really poor on pitching for as long as I can remember. They had a good stretch from 04 - 08, but it's been absolute s*** for most of my lifetime.
  19. They don't need to have high draft picks to build up a farm system. Ben and Theo were able to without many high draft picks. Why can't DD? It's still a lot of the same scouts, right?
  20. You've posted on here for only 12 months. How could you possibly know this? Honestly, it's opinions like these that starts a lot of nonsense on here.
  21. 1. It's how this team was built in the first place. 2. DD isn't the chump you make him out to be. For the Tigers, he drafted Verlander, Maybin, Andrew Miller, Porcello (27th pick), Castellanos. His history of trades is very good http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Dave_Dombrowski.
  22. Why is optimist a bad word? It's not to me.
  23. There wasn't one person on here who was outright nasty to Ben. A700 called him a "boob" and didn't believe he'd ever be a GM again. If that's "nasty" you must have a very weak stomach.
  24. That's fine, but don't act like the farm system can't ever be built up again if they want it to be.
