  1. @mlbtraderumors Jeremy Guthrie Announces Retirement Could Doug Fister be next?
  2. Ranking Bautista at 28 is too high. SoxProspects were going to drop him out of the top 60 this year.
  3. They were much higher on him towards the end of last season. They don't update their profiles often enough. Not sure Dubon is a huge step up from what the Brewers have now at SS with Arcia.
  4. "Compete for the playoffs now, but stay under the cap this year"
  5. I would say "a little merit" rather than saying "little merit." Again, it's not the biggest reason they are failing right now.
  6. If Devers was the opening day 3B, the Sox would be in first place by about 5 games. That's the real miscalculation. Sad!
  7. @redsoxstats Reed hasn't been one to wet himself on the mound. Shutdowns per meltdown: 5.5 Kimbrel 4.8 Reed 2.8 Kelly 2.0 Workman 1.8 Barnes 1.4 Hembree
  8. They don't need to trade for a LOOGY @EvanDrellich Fernando Abad vs. lefties this year: .167/.234/.286 Craig Kimbrel vs. LHP: .172/.232/.266 Aroldis Chapman: .172/.294/.241 @EvanDrellich Robby Scott vs. LHP: .111/.226/.244
  9. A reliever in A ball that isn't in the top 20? That's easily replaceable.
  10. I believe managers eventually have a shelf life. If the players were no longer willing to play for their "boss," they needed to find a new one. The only panic part of the move was grabbing Bobby V because they "needed" the polar opposite of Tito (I guess that meant a terrible manager, who has a bad track record and would tank an entire season for his own ego). There's actually a nice conspiracy out there that the FO signed Bobby so that the players would revolt and the FO would be able to clean house. I'm 51/49 on that one. Not sure the FO has shown itself to be that forward thinking.
  11. Ok, but I believe moon's point was that Ben had a much more difficult time fixing Theo's roster than DD will have fixing Ben's. I just don't agree with that at all. Ben got a perfectly fine roster and farm system. DD got a slightly better farm system, but a MLB team that was in the midst of back to back last place finishes.
  12. http://www.weei.com/blogs/alex-reimer/report-red-sox-using-back-channel-efforts-schedule-meeting-between-dennis?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter An unapologetic David Price told reporters Saturday he will speak with Dennis Eckersley “face-to-face” about their month-old airplane confrontation. But apparently, no meeting between the two pitchers has been scheduled. The Boston Globe’s Dan Shaughnessy reports there are currently no plans for Price and Eckersley to meet up, despite “back-channel efforts” by Red Sox officials. Price has not spoken with Eckersley since he berated him on the team plane in late June. This is just nonsense right now. Thanks Farrell! They should have squashed this on day one.
  13. As I said elsewhere, the trade is fine. It's market value for a reliever at the deadline.
  14. Why?
  15. Bautista and Nogosek
  16. When all the SoxProspects guys are saying that the trade is good, there's no reason worrying about an overpay.
  17. Callahan was rule V eligible too.
  18. @redsoxstats The trade was generally fair market price, people seem upset with facts though. A lot of people complaining on twitter than DD got fleeced again and that it was too much to pay. Well, that's the price to do business at the trade deadline. The price paid was also pretty meager to begin with. Sox need an extra BP arm since Thornburg and Smith aren't coming along well, Kelly is injured, Hembree sucks and Barnes is unreliable.
  19. @IanCundall RHP Gerson Bautista: Skinny, long. Effort, struggles to repeat delivery. FB 94-97 T100. Poor command. Fringy SL & CH http://bit.ly/2uctWMv @IanCundall RHP Stephen Nogosek. 2016 6th rd pick. Max effort delivery. FB 92-94 T96. Power SL 85-87. Inconsistent CH 84-86. http://bit.ly/2tWGDzG @IanCundall RHP Jamie Callahan: FB 92-95 w/life, touches higher. Flash above-average Split & SL. Close to MLB ready. RP profile. http://bit.ly/2wdSTIU I was surprised Callahan didn't get a look in Boston this year.
  20. How much blame do you put on Chili Davis? I think there is a little merit to Ortiz helping the rest of the lineup when he was playing, but I'm not sure it's the biggest reason for the slump they are currently in.
  21. Reed could flame out and the Sox wouldn't really notice the loss of those 3 guys.
  22. Yup, it's a good trade. Anyone after #20 is completely expendable in this farm system.
  23. @alexspeier It's Jamie Callahan, Gerson Bautista, and Stephen Nogosek to the Mets in the agreement for Addison Reed.
  24. That's be a perfectly acceptable trade.
  25. If they give 2 top 20 prospects, the trade is dumb. Beeks, Shawaryn and another guy would be an overpay.
